Advocate Against California’s Internal Combustion Engine Prohibition – Write to the EPA

Attention RacingJunk Community,

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is pushing forward with their “Advanced Clean Cars II” (ACC II) regulations, which could have significant implications for the automotive industry. The ACC II regulations aim to ban the sale of new internal combustion engine vehicles by 2035, with a requirement that 35% of new cars, SUVs, and small trucks sold in California must be zero-emissions vehicles (ZEV) starting in 2026. This mandate increases ZEV sales requirements annually, reaching 100% by 2035, essentially eliminating the sale of new gas-powered vehicles in the state.

Before ACC II can be enforced, CARB needs to secure a waiver from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) opposes ACC II, as seventeen states, representing almost 40% of the U.S. population, have already adopted California’s motor vehicle emission laws. Currently, nine states and the District of Columbia have already embraced ACC II, with three states committing to the regulations through 2032, requiring 87% of new motor vehicle sales to be ZEV, and two states initiating the regulatory process to adopt ACC II.

The potential ramifications of ACC II are significant. If the EPA grants California the waiver, this accelerated mandate could limit vehicle choices and force Americans to opt for more expensive options. Moreover, ACC II may disrupt automotive industry supply chains, negatively impact small automotive businesses, and lead to job losses in vehicle manufacturing, parts production, and repair sectors.

We urge you to take action! The EPA is currently accepting comments until February 27, 2024, on whether to grant a waiver for the ACC II regulations to go into effect. Your voice matters in shaping the future of the automotive industry. Share your thoughts and concerns about ACC II with the EPA to ensure a fair and balanced approach to clean car regulations.

Let’s come together as a community to make our voices heard and protect the diversity and vitality of the automotive landscape.

  1. CARB is the biggest ‘do-nothing’, totalitarian government agency in California- a state synonymous with over reguation and over reach.

  2.
