The Evolution of the Performance Racing Industry

The 2022 Performance Racing Industry (PRI) trade show truly represented the evolution of an organization that was found in 1986 by acing entrepreneur Steve Lewis, and has grown steadily since then to support the race and performance industry, including “drag racing, short track, stock car, road racing, off-road, vintage, endurance, karting, truck and tractor pulling, performance marine, and more” according the PRI website.

SEMA purchased PRI in 2012, bringing its years of experience to the show and the organization. Throughout the year, PRI acts as both publisher and advocacy organization, putting out both a print magazine and a website with news from the industry.  It hosts the annual trade show, and during the pandemic, created the PRI Road Tour to continue to showcasing members in the industry, including tracks, sanctioning bodies, manufacturers and racers.

This year, the trade show was open exclusively to PRI members, part of the membership drive that connects individuals to the PRI PAC to build support for the industry on a legislative level.  Members get free entrance to the show, a subscription to the magazine, and discounts on racing and industry related products and services.

The show recently announced that participation by exhibitors was up 10 percent for the 2022 show. “The 2022 PRI Show was filled with excitement, energy, and passion,” said Jim Liaw, PRI General Manager. “The Show served as the ideal venue for PRI members to gather and advocate for the future of motorsports. The state of the industry is one of great strength!”

RacingJunk sat down at the PRI 2022 show to speak with PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer about the evolution of the show, the organization, the legislative advocacy efforts and what’s on the horizon.
