Ruby Augusta, this week's Motor Maven, knows the real star is her VW Bug, Black Betty.

Meet **Black Betty (Bambalam)**, a beautiful 1964 sweetheart. From the moment she came into my world, she has been a true labor of love. Every upgrade, detail, and personal touch has made her more than just a classic car. She is a reflection of personality, creativity, and passion for vintage automobiles. There is truly no smile bigger than the one on my face when I am behind the wheel, cruising down the road with the windows down and the music turned up!


She has plenty of custom touches that make her one of a kind. Some of my favorite features include the powerful sound system that lets the music thump just the way I like it, the color changing LED undercarriage that lights up the night, and the matching LED headlights that give her an unforgettable presence wherever she goes. Every time the lights come on, she turns heads and starts conversations.



One of the projects I am most proud of is the custom interior and headliner. Since I was born on May the 4th, I knew I had to include a little tribute to one of my favorite fandoms. I installed a custom Star Wars themed headliner, and to complete the look, the shifter is topped with a Death Star knob. It is the perfect combination of classic and a galaxy far, far away.



If you spend a little time looking around Black Betty, you will discover countless small details that make her truly out of this world. From the custom accents to the hidden surprises throughout the car, every modification tells part of her story. She is not just transportation. She is a creative project, a source of pride, and a reminder that building something unique is always worth the effort.



Black Betty will always hold a special place in my heart. She has given me unforgettable memories, introduced me to incredible people in the classic car community, and reminded me that the best journeys are often about more than the destination. She will always be my 1964 sweetheart.
