Proposed federal emissions standards for new motor vehicles model-years ’27 to ’32 have been issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with the aim of significantly boosting the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).
According to the EPA, if its proposed standards are implemented, approximately 67% of new passenger vehicles sold in the U.S. by 2032 would be EVs. However, SEMA expresses serious concerns regarding this proposal, as it aggressively pushes for carbon emissions reduction within timelines that essentially leave electric vehicles as the only viable option for automakers to meet the requirements. This approach overlooks the potential of other emerging low and zero-emission technologies and could have adverse effects on small businesses.
