Representing more than a name change, the SEMA Kickoff Breakfast (formerly the new product breakfast) kicked off the 2022 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada with the best new product awards, as well as manufacturer of the year and channel of the year. But showcasing these innovative products and manufacturers was only part of the event, as host Jarod DeAndra introduced Ken Block, following a showing of his latest Hoonigan video.
Titled 'Ken Block’s ELECTRIKHANA: High Stakes Playground; Las Vegas, in the Audi S1 HOONITRON' the video is an epic, high-speed, burnout-heavy drive through the city of Las Vegas in a custom Audi eTron, proving that power, speed, performance and electric engines CAN go hand in hand.
The theme continued throughout the day of power and performance, of a celebration of the internal combustion engine while still exploring the adventure inherent in the growing Electric Vehicle space.
Consider Borla's win for Best New Electric Vehicle product for a system that makes an EV sound cool. The manufacturers willing to embrace the possibilities are finding success.
SEMA also announced the Manufacturer of the Year, which went to Baja Designs & Channel of the Year, to Turn 14 Distribution.
Toyota, occupying the former Ford space, introduced both the Trailhunter Concept overlanding vehicle, as well as a handful of high performance race cars -- the GR Supra ‘10-Second Twins’ and the GR Corolla Rally Concept.
The SBN (SEMA Businesswomen's Network) unveiled its all-female Bronco build, showing the Bronco's continued dominance in the consumer and off-road spaces, and as always, celebrities in the race, performance, customization and enthusiast spaces were on hand, including Mario Andretti, who stopped by the Superperformance booth for the unveiling of a replica of his 1966 Le Mans vehicle, the GT40 MKII Mario Andretti clone with livery built by Downforce Motorsports.
Ring Brothers debuted no less than FOUR new customs and finally, SEMA revealed the Top 40 Battle of the Builders competitors.
