Rennsport Reunion, the celebration of Porsche cars past, present, future race-engineered, is scheduled to return in 2023 after an absence brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic that pretty much shut down the world and didn’t allow its every-four-years deployment.
While the exact dates, location and theme for Rennsport VII haven’t been divulged, the fact that the celebration is returning has lovers of the rear- and mid-engined Porsche racing cars salivating at the prospect.
Initially brought about by racing great Brian Redman, together with Porsche Cars North America’s longstanding and much-missed press man Bob Carlson in 2001, Rennsport mostly celebrates the racing heritage of Porsche, which has been competing since its early, 356 days.
Since the inaugural event, held at Lime Rock Park more than two decades ago, Rennsport has regularly grown in its appeal, drawing more than 80,000 Porsche fans to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in 2018, the most recent Rennsport Reunion.
“We’re all excited to be able to announce the return of the Rennsport Reunion, always a highlight of Porsche motorsports enthusiasm and heritage,” said Kjell Gruner, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “Rennsport Reunion has grown quickly over the years into a truly one-of-a-kind experience,” offering sights, sounds, smells that evoke emotions for fans worldwide.
Bringing together fans of the marque, together with some of the most successful racers in Porsche cars, Rennsport Reunion “feels like everyone thrilled by the brand is united in one place,” Gruner continued, “on and off the track, as one Porsche family. We’ll announce the date and location soon, but this much I can share already: Our ambition is to make Rennsport Reunion VII the best one yet!”
Rennsport Reunion has been held at different tracks over the years and has always had a theme, celebrating different races where Porsche has succeeded. Its more regular locations have been Daytona International Speedway, site of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in central California.
Rennsport offers fans the opportunity to get up close and personal with both the cars and the stars that have made Porsche Motorsport North America so very successful. From 356s, 550s, 904s and 908s, 911s to 935s and more, Rennsportr customarily becomes the largest gathering of racing Porsche cars anywhere in the world. No doubt Rennsport Reunion VII will offer more of the same.
