Next Year’s Winternationals to be Held in Winter!

NHRA is intending to begin its 71st season of Camping World Drag Racing Series action in a familiar spot, Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, the site of this weekend’s Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by Protect the Harvest. The first race at Pomona normally takes place in February and, for that reason is called the Winternationals.

Right now it’s the Winternationals in July, but in February of 2022, NHRA intends to go back to the traditional midwinter date, one that promises snow-capped mountains behind the timing tower and mostly clear skies – maybe even some winter showers?

The sanctioning body which currently has its headquarters close to the racing circuit in Glendora – but it’s for sale, if you’re interested – reached an agreement with Auto Club Raceway to return to the traditional date. “We are thrilled to start our 2022 season at Pomona with the NHRA Winternationals,” said Kasey Coler, NHRA vice president of track management and operations. “The Pomona facility holds so much history and we’re excited to return to our traditional Winternationals dates for 2022.”

Pomona is historically the bookend to all NHRA Camping World seasons, hosting both the first and final races of each campaign. Both the first and last events are on every driver and rider’s bucket list – and it’s a must-attend race for fans from across the country.

Next year’s race is scheduled to take place on February 17-20 2022 and tickets to both next year’s Winternationals and this season’s 2021 NHRA Finals, November 11-14, are on sale right now. NHRA.com/tickets is the place to go.
