NASCAR has launched the NASCAR Swear Jar, a live fan experience that turns driver-radio profanity into prize money during The Chase. For every curse uttered by a Cup Series driver over the radio, NASCAR adds $5 to the pot.
After the opening race at Darlington Raceway, the pot had already reached $1,115.
Fans can listen to live scanner audio from all 40 Cup Series drivers while watching the swear count — and prize pot — climb in real time. Before each race, they can also predict the total number of swears and the most-used swear word.
Correct predictions earn points, with one fan advancing each week to the final contest during NASCAR Cup Series Championship weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The eventual winner takes the entire Swear Jar pot.
Created with 72andSunny Los Angeles, the campaign is essentially giving fans an uncensored look at the radio chatter that comes with the pressure of NASCAR’s postseason.
And considering how quickly a bad restart, blown tire or questionable pit call can turn a driver’s radio into a profanity factory, that pot could get pretty big before the season is over.
