The North American International Auto Show has been going on for a few days, and all car enthusiasts have been keeping a close eye on it. The NAIAS is taking place in Detroit, MI at the Cobo Center. So far, officials have announced upgrades regarding the Ford F-150, the confirmation of the Jeep Wrangler Pickup, the self-driving Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and the return of the Ford Bronco and the Ford Ranger. The automotive press, car fans and car manufacturer officials have been working around the clock to stay updated, as well as introduce the latest and hottest news in the automotive industry. Following are the latest announcements from the NAIAS Detroit show.
Disruptor of the Year
John Krafcik, CEO of Waymo, won the Disruptor of the year award at the North American International Auto Show. This award acknowledges a person or a company which has had the biggest impact on the automotive industry. The Disruptor of the Year award came after Waymo introduced the self-driving Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.
Vice President Joe Biden
Vice President Joe Biden stopped by the North American International Auto Show on Jan. 10, 2017. The Vice President, the NAIAS Chairman Sam Slaughter, U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell and UAW officials Gerald Kariem and Mike Stone toured the show and experienced the wide spectrum of the automotive industry.
Chevrolet Traverse
Chevy announced NAIAS that they will redo the three-row crossover Traverse. For the 2018 model year, Chevrolet will introduce quite a few upgrades to their crossover vehicle. Some notable changes to the Traverse include a bigger cargo area, a twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system, the third-row USB ports, the eight-passenger seating and, finally, the all-new 2.0-liter turbo engine.
Chevy Cruze Diesel Engine
Chevrolet confirmed the rumors regarding the diesel engine in the Chevrolet Cruze. The 2018 model year will get a diesel engine, both for the hatchback version and the compact Cruze. The Cruze will have a 1.6-liter turbocharged diesel engine, along with a six-speed transmission or a nine-speed transmission.
Audi Q8 Concept Car
Audi introduced their Q8 concept car, a stylish plug-in hybrid SUV, which offers a great deal of space while maintaining elegant style. The concept Q8 comes with a 3.0-liter TFSI V6 engine, which develops 333 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Audi claims the new concept car has a range of 600 miles for road trips.
Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer
Aside from the much-anticipated news regarding the Jeep Wrangler Pickup, Jeep has also confirmed the return of the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer. The investment involved in the production of the new models will create jobs for approximately 2,000 Americans. The Wagoneer will be built in the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan.
