Watch the first 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to Break into the 9s

Although the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has only been reaching new owners for a couple months, there is already a video of a new Stingray ripping through the quarter mile in the 9 second range. Mind you, we aren’t talking about the mighty Corvette Z06 or ZR1 – this is the BASE 2014 Corvette running in the 9 second range with a surprisingly short list of modifications.

First, the things that we know about the first 2014 Corvette Stingray to run in the 9s: This bright red C7 is fitted with the Z51 package and an automatic transmission with stock wheels wrapped in what I would expect to be stickier than stock tires…at least in the back. In terms of modifications, we know from the lengthy discussion in the comment that this Corvette is fitted with a set of specially prepared heads on the standard LT1 engine along with a high performance camshaft package, long tube headers with high flow exhaust, a 150 shot of nitrous oxide and a high stall torque convertor that helps to get the car away from the line with incredible urgency. The result of that work and a great launch was an elapsed time of 9.999 and a trap speed of 132.7 miles per hour.

When you watch the video below of the first 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to get into the 9 second quarter mile range, you should take note of a few things aside from the incredible roar of the Stingray’s LT1 V8. First, the car rips away from the line and if this is really how hard the new Corvette will launch with stock suspension and stock gears with just a torque convertor and tires, we will likely be seeing a great many more milestone runs made by Corvette owners and tuning shops. Next, the shifts of the automatic transmission sound remarkably crisp but it does seem like it could pop from gear to gear a little smoother so as shops have time to tinker with the shifts of the new Corvette with the 6-speed automatic transmission, we could see quicker quarter mile times simply by refining the shifts.

Finally, there is the simple fact that this 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is fitted with an automatic transmission that makes the Corvette easier to launch and get through the gears but I strongly believe that a very good driver with a manual transmission model and a bit of seat time (and comparable modifications) will be able to get a little further into the 9s. However, it doesn’t matter what other Corvette owners do as this bright red C7 is the first new Stingray to crack into the 9 second bracket and it did so with modifications that are very common in the Corvette tuning world. Based on that, we are likely to see plenty more 9 second C7 Stingrays surfacing around the country as we get into the full scale racing season in 2014.
