NHRA Pro Mod Adds D-Wagon Shootout at Brainerd

NHRA’s annual trip to Minnesota and Brainerd International Raceway has gotten a bit more interesting, thanks to Kruckeberg Industries and its D-Wagon product, bringing a FuelTech Pro Mod shootout specialty race to Brainerd this August. This marks the first ever specialty race for Pro Mod, occurring during the 2022 season.

The face of international motorsports is in a state of flux, with changes to most series occurring in the next few years as sanctioning bodies prepare for a world with less fossil fuels propelling racing cars. Formula 1, for instance will be moving to new technical regulations in 2026 that introduce synthetic fuel. INDYCAR will be utilizing KERS energy recycling with hybrids in 2024, once supply chain issues have been resolved.

One of open wheel racing’s nicest drivers has left the building. Ted Prappas, who was a mainstay in the smaller formulae, making a single start at the Indianapolis 500 in 1992, died after a quick bout with colon cancer.
