Will Wattanawongkiri has been hard at work preparing for Round 1 of the 2014 Global Time Attack series taking place on May 9th and 10th.

With his 500 HP Nissan 240SX almost race ready, the next step is to learn the 12 turn, 2.54 mile course of Road Atlanta.

When Will mentioned that he was using videogames to familiarize himself with the track, it reminded me of my experience with CXC Simulations’ Motion Pro II. I suggested that he try the MP II as a way to lower his learning curve on a track that he’s never driven before.

We arrived at CXC’s headquarters on a mission, with only 10 days until the race. After a quick orientation from founder Chris Considine, Will began lapping on a laser scanned, millimeter accurate digital re-creation of Road Atlanta.

Thoughts on the Motion Pro II:

After the first session, Will sat down with Chris for some pointers on racing lines, braking zones and areas where time could be gained.

By the end of the second session, Will was consistently turning in lap times two seconds faster than his previous attempts.

Final thoughts:

Hopefully this simulator seat time and newfound confidence will translate into a successful weekend at Road Atlanta.
