NHRA’s top sportsman series, the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is ready to roll for the 2024 season. It features stops at standout racing facilities across the United States and includes a pair of new facilities for the 2024 campaign.

The 2024 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series will begin the weekend of February 16-17 at Orlando Speed World Dragway outside the Florida city of the same name. Throughout its season, the series will include a total of 45 divisional events and 22 regional contests through to its close, November 7-10 on The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The first-time venues are Pine Valley Raceway, in NHRA’s South Central Division. This dragstrip, located in Lufkin, Texas will host the series on October 18-20. The new Flying H Dragstrip, in the West Central Division, hosts racers June 13-16 in the Kansas City area.

There are 11 doubleheader events on the docket, popular attractions for race teams and always drawing an impressive number of participants.

The doubleheader events are scheduled to take place at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park outside Phoenix, AZ on February 22-25, The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (April 18-21), at Dallas’ Texas Motorplex May 16-19, Flying H Dragstrip (June 13-16), Acton, Montana’s Yellowstone Drag Strip June 27-30, Oregon’s Woodburn Dragstrip in the town of the same name July 11-14, Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota on July 18-21, Seattle’s Pacific Raceway (August 8-11), Tulsa, Oklahoma. Morgan Lucas, president of series sponsor and promoter Lucas Oil acknowledged the importance of the series: “Sportsman racing has always been a significant part of NHRA drag racing, and we’re excited to continue our support for such an important series during the 2024 season. This series includes so many talented racers and race teams,” he remarked, “and it’s vital they have a chance to showcase those skills and all the hard work they put in at tracks across the country. We’re looking forward to the upcoming season and another great year of sportsman racing in the Lucas Oil Drag RAcing Series.”

The series’ 22 regional events also feature Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car classes, highlighting the 270-mph-plus open and closed racecars. These popular classes are featured during the Cleetus and Cars event for the second straight season, taking place at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on May 3-4, as well as the fan-favorite “Night Under Fire” show on August 2-3 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

A staple on the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series circuit, the JEGS SPORTSnationals, highlight a huge four-day compendium of horsepower overload – if there is such a thing – scheduled July 10-13 at National Trail Raceway near Columbus, Ohio. This year, more than 600 competitors competed in the JEGS SPORTSnationals, with eight different categories of NHRA Lucas Oil racers taking part in this extravaganza. The historic race, one of the marquee events of the sportsman season, leads directly into the divisional and regional event scheduled July 12-13 at the same track, concluding an action-packed four days of competition.

The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series will be featured – at no extra charge – on either NHRA.tv or on NHRA’s YouTube page, including action from all seven NHRA divisions. NHRA began this feature in 2023 and is pleased to continue the free streaming sessions in the coming season.

“Lucas Oil and the Lucas family have always been so dedicated to supporting our sport and this series,” said Glen Cromwell, NHRA president. “NHRA is proud to again partner with them for another tremendous year of sportsman racing in 2024,” he said. “The Series continues to enjoy exciting growth and that’s a credit to all of our partners, race teams and member tracks. We’ve got an exciting 2024 schedule on tap for them.”
