The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) has designated its 2022 Camping World Drag Racing Series schedule for its 2022 season, the 71st for its touring series. In addition, it has delineated which Lucas Oil Sportsman categories will accompany the professional events throughout the year.

Both Top Fuel and Funny Car classes will conduct 22 races, bringing back the customary second race of the year at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park outside Phoenix, AZ and including the Richmond race that had to be cancelled during the COVID-19 pandemic and will return next May for the first time since 2019.

Pro Stock will continue to conduct 18 races during the 2022 Camping World season, including participation in the first five events scheduled for both nitro classes. Pro Stock will engage fans at New England Dragway in New Hampshire for the second consecutive year; the highly-competitive door slammer class will make its first visit to Bristol Dragway since 2018 for the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in mid-June. Pro Stock returns to NHRA’s tough midsummer Western Swing in July that includes a three-weeks-in-a-row trip to Denver, Sonoma and Seattle, the latter returning for the first time since 2019.

The absence of Pro Stock at both Brainerd and Reading could be disappointing for KB Racing’s reigning five-time champ, who is a native of Minnesota. Kyle Koretsky, whose family resides in the Philadelphia area, won’t be able to show his wares in Reading, close to the family’s home in Bucks County.

Pro Stock Motorcycle loses one race in 2022, as it will perform on 15 different occasions; PSM’s season starts at its traditional locale, the Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL in mid-March. In 2021, PSM made two visits to Las Vegas, competing in the four-wide event earlier in the year; that date has been eliminated for the 2022 campaign. However, the two-wheeled class will join the other three Camping World entries in the final run at Houston Raceway Park before that facility is permanently closed after the April 22-24 event..

In other Pro Stock Motorcycle news, the Suzuki riders will add 10 pounds to their motorcycles in 2022. This decision was made even though a Buell rider, Matt Smith, won the PSM championship for his fifth championship. No Suzuki has been quick enough to catch Smith, yet they’re about to be penalized in anticipation of development to the four-valve Suzuki engine, which saw success with both Angelle Sampey and Steve Johnson, each riding a different block/head combination.

There are, once again, 10 races on the docket for NHRA’s Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, including three consecutive events to close out the year in Charlotte, St. Louis and a season finale at Dallas on October 13-16, marking the first time Pro Mod has completed its season in the Lone Star State.

Pro Mod will be joined by the Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown class, which will wind down its eight-race campaign in Dallas. Like Pro Mod, Factory Stock Showdown’s Dodge Challenger Drag Paks, Chevrolet COPO Camaros and Ford Cobra Jets start at Gainesville, return to Bristol in June as they compete for subsequent manufacturer bragging points at Charlotte, Richmond, Norwalk, Indianapolis and Reading.

Top Fuel Harley has six races on its schedule, beginning at Gainesville and concluding its season at Dallas. The tough-to-ride V-twins will perform at zMAX Dragway in the spring, followed by Richmond, Bristol and the U.S. Nationals near Indianapolis before completing their season at Texas Motorplex. Mountain Motor Pro Stock gets four trackside opportunities: initially at the early=season Charlotte race, Brainerd and Indy before returning to Charlotte for their season finale.
