Fresh off his DIRTcar Summer Nationals win, the current king of the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series was back at it on a rare racing Tuesday night. After starting on the pole for the inaugural Red’s Auto Badgerland 50 at ABC Raceway, Brandon Sheppard and his Rocket1 Racing team sped to their fourth consecutive victory and 12th win of the year.

After Sheppard led the first 19 laps of this race, the first caution flag flew for a mid-race rain shower. Although Mother Nature threatened to end this race early, the 25-car field was able to stay on the track for a handful of laps while the rain subsided. After the flag went back to green a three-car tangle broke out in turn three, which led officials to believe that the track was too wet to continue – especially since the rain once again began to fall.

As drivers returned to the pit area, crews jumped into action, making adjustments before returning to an entirely different race surface than they may have been prepared for. Once the race restarted, Sheppard turned the fastest lap of the race while the No. 25 of Shane Clanton shot out of his own cannon to challenge the Rocket1 Racing car, which was just over two seconds ahead and heading into lapped traffic.

By lap 35, the driver who they call The Georgia Bulldog began to reel in Sheppard. Both Clanton and Sheppard switched lines in the final ten laps as Clanton began diving deep into turns three and four to try and get by on the bottom.

Despite Clanton’s efforts, “The Rocket” Shepp led every lap en route to his first victory at ABC and 49th of his World of Outlaws career.

“This race was definitely a lot of fun,” said Sheppard. “The track changed a little bit after the rain, but track officials did a great job of keeping it sealed up. This is the first time that we had an opportunity to race at ABC Raceway and it is just another one on the list of places that I would like to come back t,o because it is definitely a lot of fun here.”

As Sheppard continues to dominate this series, runner-up Shane Clanton and third place finisher Ricky Weiss have another chance to challenge the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series points leader on one of the most grueling weekends of the 2019 season. These three races in three states in three days include River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND on Friday, July 12, Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, MN on Saturday, July 13 and another Series debut appears at Red Cedar Speedway on Sunday, July 14. Stay tuned to for all of your World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series coverage.
