Mitzi’s Pinup Corner: Bluegrass Kas

Click Here to Begin Slideshow Hot rod and pinup photographer Mitzi Valenzuela is known for having her finger on the pulse of both classic and rockabilly car culture. As part of that, Mitzi produces pinup contests for shows all over the world. Here she shares photos of the competitors and some super sweet rides. Some words from the model, Bluegrass Kas, who was second place Trophy Girl at the 2019 Sacramento Autorama: Nothing heightens the senses quite like thousand-horsepower big blocks. My heart races each time the concussive wave of each cylinder firing hits my body. Brutal burnouts transform the landscape into a smoky wonderland, and the sticky asphalt reminds me of the shortfalls of wearing heels at a drag strip. Oh, and I know I shouldn’t like the smell of race fuel - but I do! Why do I enjoy racing? I love seeing how people express their personalities though cars. It is interesting to explore what each of us finds attractive; how creativity and art blend together in the form of metal and paint. I enjoy meeting and talking with the owners. It quickly becomes apparent how their cars are truly an extension of themselves. Which cars do I find attractive? Loud engines, bright colors and shiny supercharges glistening as they tower over the hood. I just love how these cars make me feel. I also love being a pinup. I embrace femininity, fashion, beauty, strength and positivity. I hope my efforts serve as an homage to those women who endeavored to bring happiness and hope to our military serving abroad, rallying morale in ways not possible by any other means. A necessary distraction from the cruelty of combat. The evidence is objective – look at the nose art of propeller-driven bombers and fighters. Paintings of pinups were taken into war beside the men who fought and died for our freedom. In this way, I support the flyboys, sailors, marines and soldiers at whose expense we are free. I also wish to offer my sincerest gratitude to Mitzi & Co. It was an honor and privilege to compete (my first time ever!) as a participant, and ultimately as a Trophy Girl finalist, in the 2019 Autorama Pinup Show in Sacramento. Mitzi was wonderful and ran the contest with class and grace. She also has a unique gift for making her models feel beautiful and special during photoshoots; Mitzi is truly an artisan at her craft.
