The IHRA emphasizes it’s commitment to Sportsman racing, confirms no Nitro or Pro Mod planned for 2023 and beyond.
With the change in leadership and ownership at the International Hot Rod Association, fans and racers have been wondering what happens next. The answer is Sportsman class racing. The IHRA announced today that the IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering, the IHRA Ironman Classic, the IHRA Summit Team Finals and the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals will all continue through 2023 and beyond, emphasizing the role that the Ironman trophy plays in the amateur drag racing community.
With that update, President Larry Jeffers also confirmed that there are no plans to bring back Nitro or Pro Mod racing. The IHRA season continues this weekend with the IHRA Division 3 (North Stars) Summit Team Finals from Sept. 15-18 at Dragway 42 and the IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering at Mo-Kan Dragway in Asbury, Missouri on Saturday, Sept. 17.
In addition, the IHRA welcomes Wilkesboro Dragway to the family. In 2023, it will welcome IHRA Sportsman and grassroots racers to it’s strip. The track, first opened in 1955, is part of a blooming motorsports renaissance in that part of North Carolina, following on the heels of the North Wilkesboro Speedway reopening.
And finally, the IHRA announced that Xtreme Raceway Park, 1/8-mile drag racing facility in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, has also signed on for 2023.
