If you’re a fan of nitro burning Nostalgia Funny Cars, circle the evening of July 29th on your calendar. Goodguys will transform Pacific Raceways into a fiberglass forest with the biggest field of Nitro Funny Cars to ever run this event. An 8-car “Chicago-Style” program, dubbed “Goodguys Northwest Nitro Shootout” presented by Bucky’s Auto Service and CP-Carrillo has been booked, headlined by Tacoma’s Bucky Austin and his Bardahl-sponsored ’78 Pontiac Firebird.

With driver Kris Krabill behind the wheel, the March Meet-winning team will take on the likes of Mark “Mr Explosive” Sanders, Tim Boychuk, Ryan Hodgson, Chris Davis, Wally “G-Men” Giavia, Nathan Sitko and Tim Nemeth. The entire field of nitro burners will run twice during the evening with the quickest winning car in the 2nd session claiming bragging rights as the winner of the Funny Car shootout. It is sure to take fans back to SIR’s glory days when Bill Doner and Steve Evans forged the track’s place in drag racing lore with their heralded 64 Funny Car thrill shows.

But that’s only a portion of the explosive lineup. Rich Guasco’s “Pure Hell” will square off with Bryan Hall’s “Tramp” in a Fuel Altered match race. A fast field of A/Fuel dragsters led by Tacoma’s Drew Austin and his famous father Pat will take to the track as will the Pro Mods of Garrett Richards and Yvonne Lucas in a classic blown vs nitrous battle. In addition to the hi-powered exhibition machines, hundreds of sportsman racers will burn up the track in 5 separate racing classes.

“This is the biggest one-day race in the 33 year history of Goodguys,” said Race Director Jason Bunker. We have been staging this event here at Pacific Raceways since 1988. This will be the biggest, fastest and certainly most exciting of them all.”
