Ford recently announced a new, sportier package for the Ranger FX2 and a new Mustang that will debut in the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2020. Truck customization is becoming more of a priority for many truck customers, so Ford has made the FX2 Package to let buyers reach the next level with their two-wheel-drive truck. Ford also announced that the all-new Mustang will make its debut during Speedweeks at Daytona Saturday, Feb. 15th, 2020.
“FX2 expands Ranger’s options for customers who want tough, off-road style with the functionality of a locking differential but don’t need four-wheel drive. This is another way our customers can personalize Rangers to match their lifestyle while getting a great value,” said Brian Bell, Ford Ranger marketing manager.
The new FX2 Package gives the Ranger capability upgrades and tough sports styling. A new off-road tuned suspension, off-road tires and an electronic-locking rear differential deliver these capability enhancements. Styling upgrades include Ford’s off-road cluster screen and the aforementioned off-road tires and 17- or 18-inch wheels, air-dam delete and the addition of an underbody guard.
Ford has produced four all-new Mustangs for motorsports use in the past year. The new NASCAR Xfinity Series Mustang is the result of a collaboration between the Ford Performance Technical Center, where simulators and advanced development tools are being used to improve production and race vehicles for customers and Ford Design. The current Xfinity Mustang was introduced in 2011.
“We’ve always talked about the Mustang being a car that was born to race, and it’s been gratifying to see it performing so well in multiple series around the world,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports. “It’s a credit to all of our engineers and teams that have worked so hard to make the Mustang a championship contender right out of the box.”
In conjunction with Ford’s announcement, Ben Kennedy, NASCAR managing director of racing operations and international development, said, “Ford and NASCAR have enjoyed a long and storied partnership, and the iconic Mustang has solidified its place within that legacy with an impressive performance in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. We’re looking forward to seeing what the newest generation of the Mustang will do on the track.”
Other series that the Ford Mustang competes in include the NHRA Funny Car drag racing, the IMSA Michelin Pilot Series Challenge, Europe’s FIA British GT4 Championship and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, which received its new Mustang last year.
