Chris Karamesines, legendary Top Fuel racer, may take the cake for the most unique memorable moment. In 1975 Chris crashed his Top Fuel Dragster after a tire blowout in the qualifying runs. Karamesines plated his dragster almost axle to axle in 24k karat gold and the crash sent bits and pieces of the gold into the crowd. Many different spectators ended up with debris from the crash. The NHRA displays a piece at their museum.
