Corvette ZR1X and ZR1 Shatter Nürburgring Records without Pro Drivers

Chevrolet has officially released Nürburgring lap times for the upcoming Corvette ZR1X and ZR1, establishing them as the two fastest American production sports cars ever to lap the legendary 12.9-mile Nordschleife. With blistering times of 6:49.275 for the hybrid AWD ZR1X and 6:50.763 for the twin-turbo RWD ZR1, both models not only surpassed the Ford Mustang GTD, but now rank among the quickest production cars in Nürburgring history—regardless of origin. These results were achieved without professional drivers, using GM’s in-house development engineers, further underscoring the capability and accessibility of Chevrolet’s next-generation performance lineup.

Nürburgring Official Lap Times (GM-Verified)

  • ZR1X: 6:49.275

  • ZR1: 6:50.763

  • Z06: 7:11.826

The thing that may blow some minds is that GM engineers completed all laps…not professional drivers and granted, they aren’t novices, but still.  The GM Engineers used pre-production models with performance packages and factory-spec components, aside from minor safety modifications. These laps were conducted on the full official 20.8 km layout of the Nürburgring, with confirmation from the track’s timing authorities. GM engineers piloted all three vehicles — Drew Cattell (ZR1X), Brian Wallace (ZR1), and Aaron Link (Z06) — each with hundreds of Ring laps and years of development experience under their belts. Together, they’ve tested GM vehicles at the Nürburgring across 31 trips and a combined 36 years of engineering.

Performance Context

  • ZR1X’s 6:49.275 lap is currently the fastest by any non-professional driver in Nürburgring’s official record list.

  • ZR1’s time puts it ahead of the Ford Mustang GTD, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, and just behind the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.

  • Z06’s lap time was set on the current full Nürburgring layout. A comparable lap on the older, slightly shorter layout would adjust it to approximately 7:08.

These lap times place the ZR1 and ZR1X in the top tier of Nürburgring production car records, setting new benchmarks for American performance engineering.

We look forward to seeing what these cars will be capable of going forward.
