The lure of team ownership is taking Buddy Hull back to his roots. When the Funny Car driver first entered NHRA’s Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, it was under his personal umbrella. Given the opportunity to work with the legendary team owner of Jim Dunn Racing, Hull couldn’t pass up the chance and has spent the past two seasons driving Dunn’s iconic Dodge Charger.

Now using the Hull Racing banner, the Dallas, Texas business owner has assembled a complete racing operation in preparation for NHRA’s 75th anniversary season, which opens with the Gatornationals, March 6-8 on the historic Gainesville Raceway dragstrip.

Hull graciously stated, “I want to thank Jim Dunn Racing for the opportunity to race a nitro Funny Car full-time. After the experiences of the past two seasons,” where he competed with quarterfinal results on numerous occasions, “the time was right for me to take ownership of my career and brand. I have a lot of business opportunities on and off the track, and this was the perfect time to take the next step in my Funny Car career.”

To manage both operations and tuning for the Hull Racing Funny Car, its driver has hired two crew chiefs: Mike Guger and Johnny West, who are developing two cars at Hull’s Dallas area workshops. The team intends to test in advance of the upcoming 2026 campaign, focusing on attaining consistent 3.90-sec runs.

While Hull realizes this upcoming season is shaping up to be a really competitive campaign, he’s confident of his choice to reset, and happy with his personnel acquisition. “I have worked with Mike for a number of years, and adding the expertise of Johnny West to my team will give us a great 1-2 punch. We will be ready,” he stressed, “to go every qualifying session and every elimination round. I am excited for the future, and we have some great marketing partners that will be along for the ride.”

In addition to redeveloping his Hull Racing brand, Buddy Hull continues to spread the straight-line gospel with his award-winning television show, Talking Funny Cars with Buddy Hull as well as additional marketing events and programs. Hull Racing will be making sponsorship announcements during this week’s Performance Racing Industry (PRI) how in Indianapolis.
