After becoming the winningest World of Outlaws driver in the state of Wisconsin last weekend, Brandon Sheppard and his Rocket1 Racing team were back at it this weekend at Grand Forks, ND’s own River Cities Speedway. Thanks to the use of something that most drivers might find a challenge, the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series driver known as The Rocket Shepp guided his Valvoline No. 1 Durham powered Rocket to yet another history-making win.
Starting Saturday night’s 50 Lap feature at the famed ¼ mile high-banked dirt track in the runner up position, Sheppard seemed to be holding back throughout most of this race, which gave pole sitter Ricky Weiss an opportunity to dominate the first 31 laps of this heated battle. Although most fans expected the rocket powered racer to charge to the lead following a lap 13 caution, Weiss began to pull away from Sheppard that is until lapped traffic would change the whole pattern of this race.
As he continued to stalk Weiss in the midst of this hurdle, Sheppard found just what he needed to close in on the race leader and found a way to dart to the outside and race his way to yet another race lead by lap 32. While most expected the newest double-digit winning driver to fall short to hometown hero Donny Schatz, Sheppard proved that his experience in a late model would be too much for the 10-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion as he would continue to drive away with his 10th victory of the season. Now reaching the double-digit win mark this year, Sheppard officially became the first driver in the 19-year history of the World of Outlaws Late Models to record four different 10-wins seasons. With all four of those occurrences coming over the last four years.
“This is all so surreal for a kid that grew up at speedways across the country,” said Sheppard. “Now I am out here on the road living this race winning dream for myself. I cannot thank Mark Richards enough for picking me up and giving me this opportunity to get the experience that I needed at tracks all over the country. This is what got us here to be as consistent as we are and I am just having a ton of fun.”
A big CONGRATS goes out to Brandon Sheppard and his entire Rocket1 Racing team from all of us here at RacingJunk.com!!
