[VIDEO] ATI Camaro Sets New NHRA Super Stock Record

The Chevrolet COPO Camaro drag racing package was designed to give racers an ultra high performance option to dominate the NHRA Stock and Super Stock classes and the folks from ATI Performance announced recently that their COPO Camaro #008 set the new class record for the NHRA Super Stock A/Automatic category. The ATI Performance COPO Camaro ran an astonishing 8.449 at 161.83 miles per hour, setting the new standard by which these factory-build drag cars will all be compared.

True, the ATI Chevrolet COPO Camaro race car was not stock;  it was modified within the guidelines of the NHRA Super Stock class.  ATI added its own Fuel Comp T400 transmission in an ATI SuperCase, a 9 inch Fuel and Blown Torque Converter, an LS1 crank adapted and flex plate with a 10 rid ATI Super Damper to drive the huge supercharger. Next, ATI turned to Katech to build the motor to the factory specs with all of the approved General Motors components including the COPO Camaro program’s top of the line 4.0L Whipple supercharger.

While ATI had been racing their new COPO Camaro throughout the 2013 season, this record setting run was made on the first weekend with temperatures under 75 degrees at Englishtown Raceway. With temperatures continuing to drop as we near the end of the racing season (for those folks who live areas with real winters), there is a good chance that ATI could turn out an even better time than the current record of 8.449.

To put to sleep any questions that the ATI Performance Chevrolet COPO Camaro race car ran those impressive numbers of 8.449 at 161.83, the company has offered up a video of the NHRA Super Stock A/A record setting run and you can watch that below. This video is best enjoyed with the speakers cranked up as the blown GM race motor sounds awesome as it propels the Camaro race car down the quarter mile.
