On the Road to Bonneville with Mackey's Hot Rods

Road trips are always better with friends. Last week we hit the road for Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats. The event was scheduled from August 6th thru the 12th. Last year we had so much fun making the road trip out with the guys from Mackey's Hot Rods that we decided to caravan again this year. Our crew got larger with a few additional Mackey built hot rods joining us on the trip. We met up with the guys at a gas station along the 15 freeway in Barstow with our final destination set for Ely, Nevada.
We hit a bit of rain on the way up but managed to make good time without any hiccups. It was our first time staying in Ely at the Old Hotel Nevada. I have always wanted to spend more time in that quaint little town so I'm glad the guys picked a great resting stop. We got in some great shots in the morning before heading to the salt flats. We were only 2 hours out so the drive was pretty easy.
We hit more rain on the way but nothing like what would experience at Bonneville. The whole event got cancelled so we made the best of it. The party at the Nugget on Friday is always a good time. It was nice to catch up with friends I haven't seen in a long time out there. Our trip back home was just one straight shot on the highways. The boys from Mackey's left early since there were no rooms available on Saturday night in Wendover. We always have a great time no matter what happens at Bonneville. It's truly a magical place.
