Ford has always had some of the coolest named iterations for their beloved pony prince. Names like Boss, Bullitt, Cobra, all make you feel– cooler, but none may be as cool as Mach-1. It just sounded FAST, and when it debuted in 1969people loved it’s muscle car-centric styling from its engine options to its quirky louvres. Ford announced yesterday that it will bring back the legendary nameplate after almost two decades of hiding under a mountain Godzilla-style.
“Bold styling, great acceleration and speed – Mach 1 says it all,” said Jim Farley, Ford’s chief operating officer. “This is one of those special Mustangs that truly brings a smile to the faces of our owners, enthusiasts and fans – including me – so there’s never been a better time to bring back Mach 1 and have it go global too.”
As far as the good stuff goes, the Mach-1 will start with Ford’s trusted 5.0-liter Coyote motor but has been recalibrated for more power, figures should be around 480 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,600 rpm.
The Mach 1 will borrow some go-fast goodies from its Shelby GT350 big brother, including the intake manifold, oil filter adapter and engine oil cooler, increasing engine oil cooling capability by 50 percent. Driving enthusiasts maybe the most pleased with a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission option, although you can still opt for the 10-speed SelectShift™ automatic transmission with an upgraded torque converter and unique calibration that enables optimizing torque capability blah, blah, I KNOW ITS BETTER DAD, BUT I WANNA SLAM GEARS!
Instead of describing what it looks like, have a look for yourself!
