Chevrolet Unleashes 1,250HP AWD 2026 Corvette ZR1X — The American Hypercar Arrives

Chevrolet has pulled the wraps off the most extreme Corvette to date: the 2026 Corvette ZR1X, an all-wheel drive, twin-turbo, electrified monster that earns its title as a true American hypercar. With a total system output of 1,250 horsepower and a GM-estimated 0-60 mph time under 2 seconds, this dual-powertrain Corvette is poised to shake up both street and strip.

The ZR1X combines a 5.5L LT7 twin-turbo V8 with a front-mounted electric motor, delivering a staggering 1,064 hp to the rear wheels and an additional 186 hp through the front axle. Torque figures come in at 828 lb-ft from the V8 and another 145 lb-ft from the front motor. Quarter-mile projections? GM says sub-9 seconds at over 150 mph.

“From day one, we designed the mid-engine Corvette architecture with ZR1X in mind,” said Ken Morris, GM’s VP of Product Development. “This is the most revolutionary platform in Corvette history.”

Built for Brutality

The ZR1X takes Corvette performance further than ever with a track-tested, regen-charging eAWD system, and a high-voltage battery pack designed for fast cycling and sustained bursts of energy. Unlike plug-in hybrids, this system requires no cord—charging happens via regenerative braking and front motor engagement.

The compact electric front motor brings enhanced traction, operating up to 160 mph before disengaging. It’s the same size as the E-Ray’s, but features tougher internals and better power deployment for even more aggressive launches and corner exits.

Dual Power. One Purpose.

On the track, drivers can activate three custom driving modes to control how the ZR1X delivers its electrified muscle:

  • Endurance – Charge+ mode maximizes lap consistency

  • Qualifying – Peak power delivery for the ultimate time attack

  • Push-to-Pass – Instant access to full electric boost

Also new for 2026 is PTM Pro, a track-oriented mode that turns off traction and stability control but retains key electronic aids like:

  • Regen Brake Torque Vectoring

  • Front Axle Pre-Control for improved corner exits

  • Launch Control with full customization

Stopping Power to Match

ZR1X introduces the J59 braking system, engineered specifically to handle this level of performance. It features massive 16.5-inch carbon ceramic rotors paired with Alcon 10-piston front and 6-piston rear calipers—the largest and most capable brake setup ever offered on a Corvette.

GM’s internal tests clocked the J59 system at 1.9G of deceleration, from 180 mph down to 120 mph, making it the strongest braking package ever validated in a GM production car.

Two Chassis, One Goal: Dominate

Buyers can choose between two chassis setups:

  • Standard Magnetic Ride with Michelin PS4S tires for grand touring and road duty

  • ZTK Performance Package with stiffer springs and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires for track dominance

Also available is the Carbon Aero package, bringing wind-tunnel-developed dive planes, underbody strakes, a gurney lip, and a high-downforce rear wing good for 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed.

Hypercar Power. Corvette Soul.

ZR1X continues the evolution of the eighth-generation Corvette platform, offering coupe and hardtop convertible versions, and a refreshed interior featuring a three-screen driver interface, Performance App integration, and new high-end trim options.

Every ZR1X will be assembled in Bowling Green, Kentucky, with hand-built LT7 engines coming from the Bowling Green Performance Build Center. Pricing and availability will be announced closer to production.
