Default driveshaft

can the 90's chevy truck drive shafts be cut down and used or would this justbe a waste of time. they are huge and appear to be aluminum

Hello. to answer your question the answer is YES.....as long as you have the proper yokes in place to fit your tranny and rear end and have clearance for the OD then yes it can be cut down and used.
what i would have checked out is the thickness of the tubing..just because is a large OD tube doesn't mean the thickness ( gauge) of metal is where you need it...

any drive line shop that deals with these drive shafts can cut these down and re-balance them very reasonable...i had my last one re-sized and balanced for about $36.00 dollars..
