You could say that buried under those artifacts is another civilization, one that was based on acceleration and terminal velocity. Sadly, it has been long since paved over with “Progress.” In this article (the full text of which you can read on Hot Rod Hotline), Paul Garson takes us back to the '50s to discover the history of the famous Lions Drag Strip, which has recently experienced a revival of sorts as a quasi-museum and collection of amazing cars.

  1. Many memories at Lyons Drag strip. I ran a C Gasser in the late ’50’s and early ’60;s. My “home” track was San Fernando Drag Strip but raced very often at Lyons, Bakersfield, and of course the Winter Nationals at Pomona. That was when drag racing was KING. Sure, NASCAR was around but drag racing was were it was at. They say you can’t go back in time but if you sit back, close your eyes, put your mind in a different world, you could relive a memory or two.
