Default How do you all feel about this motor?

I'm looking at buying a motor, found this one in a local ad:

350 4 bolt main bored .030 over flat tops comp cam 12-213-3 matching springs rods double hump heads with 202 valves

I have contacted the guy to find out more about it, but how does it sound so far?

It would be going in a 1991 s10 reg cab short bed built for bracket drag racing.

Default how much are you paying for it

so far its sounds to be a 400 (+/-)HP sbc, so cost is important.

Asking price is $1600, sounds like a pretty good price to me.

Also in the picture with the ad I can see it has a tunnel ram intake with a dual carb setup. Waiting for a reply to know more about it and what all is included.

seems to be fair money for that SBC, did you ask about the internals ? miles or runs on the motor, how fresh etc,

Yeah asked about bottom end, what used for, how many miles, and what it comes with.

I figured this would be at least a good motor to start with, a lot better than the 1979 stock 350 I have sitting around. Also was thinking if it's got a stock bottom end, I'd probably knock it out to a 383.

Brand New 350" Crate engines start at around $1600 (with a warranty) so look at what you're buying pretty hard . . .

I'd do a "Wet" leakdown on it at least, before I handed over the whole wad of cash . . That and get a pretty good reason for selling it from the seller . .

"Buy when someone HAS to sell, and sell when someone HAS to buy" . . .

"Want" is a lot different than "Need" . . .

Just advice from an old geezer . . .

So I never heard back from that guy about that motor. Ended up finding another one from a friend of a friend. I have already bought it but I felt a lot more comfortable buying this one, and it was less money lol

What can I expect power wise from this one?
Here's the specs I was given:
It is a 10.5:1 355.
4 bolt main '010' block bored .030 over, with replacement bolts.
Line bored and decked to 9.010". All Clevite bearings.
Forged lightweight flat top 2 valve relief pistons w/plasma moly rings
Forged Crank and bowtie rods. Assembly internally balanced
Double roller chain
Elgin hydraulic flat tappet cam. E1165 .520/.544 and 234/[email protected] hydraulic w/1.6 Roller tip rockers
Melling oil pump
200cc ProTopline Iron heads. 64cc chambers. 2.02/1.60 valves (untouched-no porting or cutting of any kind)
Edelbrock performer RPM intake

One, generally you get what you pay for . .

And secondly, depending on what you hook it up to and how heavy the sled is that it's in, anywhere from 13.50's to maybe 11.0's on a good day.

But that's all SWAG. Just put it in, get it running on all 8 and take it out and play with it . .

Then start aiming at the E.T. you want it to run . . You have to have a beginning number, and then improve on that.

Have fun . . . That's what it's all about . .
