Default Eagle crank video

We balance for a lot of other shops in the area and from time to time we do put a mic on the jounals and we find that the journals are not very flat.

This is good info

I had mine checked also. It wasn't tapered or balanced properly

Most guys would measure that tapered crank and say it was fine, its hard to measure with a micrometer and really see the diference close the the radius of the journal. This video really should show you how .001 can be not flat.

It is my understanding that the reason for the taper on some cheaper cranks is that they polish the journals to size...I may be wrong on that but I think I have read that on SPEEDTALK.

Mine measured within a tenth or two anywhere on the journal. I Checked it in three places on all the journals. I have all the measurements written down in a notebook somewhere. I did have bearing issues on number 2 and 4 mains. I asked the guy at Steve Schmidt to double check the crank for taper because of things I've read online and I didn't know how much was acceptable. he said it was fine. The bearing trouble was found to be caused by the rotating assembly being out od balance and the main bores in the block were too tight. It is a Merlin Block and had not been align honed when new.

First time I ever quoted myself, but anyway, mine may have had some final work done, but I don't remember SVRE saying anything about it.
Either way, if it wasn't off I'm sure it will be by the time I finish with it!

When building my 540 tried Eagle for the crank. The first one needed to be turned .010-.010 right out of the box  . The second one the stroke was off by .010  . Bought a Callies.
