What a joke 4 lane racing is
I'm very disappointed that NHRA went to the 4 lane racing. It may be good for the seated fans at the track, but it's BS for the telavised viewer. It's too confusing in my opinion, to many #'s to keep up with. This is not new too me since i ran it in the 60's at both Great lakes dragway Wis. and at Rockford dragway in Il. it sucked then and it still sucks today. I know a lot of the forum users are not old enough to have experienced these 4 lane races, and didn't even know that they have already been done in the past.
I hope NHRA never ever does this again, i want to root for the guy in the next lane, not someone a 100 ft away who doesn't even know who he is running.

4 lanes of racing reminds me of "Spinal Tap"
"Our amps go to eleven"
Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.
NHRA VERSION
NHRA: The pros all race 4 wide. Look, right across the track, racecar, racecar, racecar and...
Race Fan: Oh, I see. And most tracksrace 2 wide?
NHRA: Exactly.
Race Fan: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
NHRA: Well, it's two louder, isn't it? It's not two. It's four. You see, most tracks, you know, will be racing two at a time. You're racing two at a time, two at a time, two at a time, two at a time, you're racing two at a time. Where can you go from there? Where?
Race Fan: I don't know.
NHRA: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need better ratings, you know what we do?
Race Fan: Race 4 wide?
NHRA: 4 wide. Exactly. Two louder.
Race Fan: Why don't you just race two cars down the track with no down time?
NHRA: [pause] These race 4 wide.

I think it would be better to run 2 and have the other 2 doing the burnout and staging. They could at least give you enough time to look at all 4 lanes times and rt's.
It has a cool factor but not a watchable format.
