Brake pedal and master cylinder question

Default Brake pedal and master cylinder question

Just wondering what everyone is using for their brake systems. I am looking for a pedal and master assembly for the new tube chassis car. Do most run seperate masters with a balance bar or single dual piston systems? Any reasonable manufacturers out there? I do have 4 wheel discs. Metric GM's in the back and MR-2's in front. I just need the master cylinders and pedal set up.

I use a conventional dual set up in my tube chassis cars. I mount the master on the fire wall and make my own pedal to suite the room available due to having to mount the master where it fits, doesn't always fall where your left foot wants it. As for the master cyl size depends on the brake cylinder requirements. I often use one from strange that is 1 1/8" dia. I change the pedal ratio to get 1300# brake line pressure with a minimal of pedal effort, about 150# is the rule that I have herd of previous. You can use a floor mounted assy with balance bar etc., but this is easy to bleed due to gravity location and allows you to use common inexpensive brake parts. No residual pressure valves. You will need a proportion valve with this set up but the total cost is generally much less than the balance bar set ups. Not every one will agree on any one brake set up but you must be able to get 1300# of line pressure to lock up brakes (About) and they should be mounted in a safe location away from heat and hazard. Wilwood has a setup that allows dual master cyl. that way you have fronts and back brakes operating on different master cyl. if you ever lose your brakes on one the other will be there to help you stop.
