377 SBC Help??

Default 377 SBC Help??

Can you get any bearings for a 377, 400 block and 350 crank, where you don't have to use bearing spacers. Bearing spacers don't look like a good setup to me. I haven't dealt any with a 377, is it a good engine setup? Pros and Cons...

Have to us the spacers.. A friend of mine has them in his Vega.
377 stock 2 bolt block on alky runs 6.40-6.50 with a GM forged crank.
Has ran this setup for more than 5 years.

Ran a 377 for a couple years. Never a problem with the spacers. Still have them out in the garage somewhere. Used a forged GM crankshaft.

He left the 2 bolt alone...he didn't turn into 4 bolt splayed??

I am thinking about building a 406 on a very tight budget and was curious if 2 bolt would hold up to 13:1 comp. and occasionally a 150 shot.

My Teriatory,
Get over it the spacers work just fine, i ran them 25 yrs ago and i run them today. The engine in my Malibu is a 377" and it's been 8,000 rpms. I also run 14 to 1 compression on alcohol. Actually the spacers are a plus they have 360 degree grooves and i drill an extra 1/8" oil hole at 45 degrees in the main bearing for extra oiling. I run a main girdle and it's 2 bolt block. In fact after i assembled the block and installed it in a dragster for the first run, we discovered a leak in the blk. We put 13 passes on the engine and it ran 5.16 1/8 and 8.23 @ 158 qtr. mi at Memphis. We broke out at Super Chevy with 5.14, we ran no water in the dragster. I then pulled the engine out of the dragster and found a 4" crack just below the deck of the blk. I welded it up with a tig/ hammering after each 1/2 weld with Ni-rod, didn't even pull the heads off. I then installed it in my Malibu and have close to 100 passes running 125mph, 10.50's qtr. and 6.52 in the 1/8 and the car weighs 3250 lbs.
I'm pulling the motor out this winter to install a 434", but the 377" is still ready to go.

Yes. It does have studs and I am sure he had it line honed to make sure the saddles were straight. He don't spray it though. Just a bracket car.

Dont be afraid of the spacer bearings, i run them in my .060 over 377 shifting at 8200 with 2 stages of NOS it was splayed but never had a bearing problem even with the 650 shot of spray, even bent all the rods in it once still with no bearing issues!
