Default Solid or Roller cam

I have a 383 sbc with 9.5 to1 comp alum. heads with 2.05 intake and 1.96 exh. rpm air gap intake and demon carb. Any suggestions on what size cam and what type. Its in a 97 sonoma with a 700r4 w/2800 stall and a narrowed 9" 4:56 gears. also gonna spray it in the future.

Most engine builders will tell you that a roller cam will make more horse power over a flat tappet at the same lift and duration .....but a roller cam with lifters is not cheap compared to a flat tappet which is really cheap......so the bang for the buck isn't really there ...i am saying this even though i have 2 cars with roller cams in them.........

i think the bang for the buck says 'roller'

i've had roller and solid tappet, i would never go back to solid tappet..

what is the application? how much street vs strip, etc? maybe this is a place for hydraulic roller..

what is the budget?

make excuses to increase the budget..

Opinions differ for sure, but with your combination in my opinion you donot need a roller or a wild cam. A few yrs. ago i swithed from a flat tappet to a roller in a 406" motor, $800.00 later i gained .005 hundreds on gas.
The best flat tappet cam i have ever owned in my life and i still have it is a Bullit ( CHS 308/316-6F ) it's going into a 1998 Sonoma stepside with a 406" motor with PG and a 4,000 stall converter and 4.86 gears, street driven with Hoosiers prostreet 13.5 X 29.5 X15's. I've owned this cam for 9 yrs. and i'll never sell it.
