What is the best way to wash and maintain a heavy weighted blanket?

I recently bought a weighted blanket and want to make sure I take proper care of it. Since these blankets can be difficult to handle due to their weight, is it better to wash only the removable cover regularly and clean the inner blanket less often? What washing cycle, detergent, and drying method have worked best for protecting the stitching and glass beads?

I’d definitely check the care instructions before putting the whole blanket in a home washer. With a heavier weighted blanket, the cover is usually much easier to wash regularly, while the inner blanket may need less frequent cleaning. I’d use a gentle cycle, cold water, and avoid harsh detergents or fabric softener. For drying, air-drying flat seems safer than putting a 15–20 lb blanket into a dryer, especially if you’re concerned about the stitching and glass beads. I bought mine from Novaline here: https://novaline-blankets.com/ So far, keeping the cover clean and washing the inner blanket only when necessary seems like the easiest approach.

I agree that checking the care instructions first is the safest approach, especially with heavier weighted blankets. A removable cover makes regular cleaning much easier and helps protect the inner blanket over time. I also think gentle washing and careful drying are important to preserve the stitching and keep the filling evenly distributed.
