My first real passes were in a dragster that runs 8.30's. Scared the crap out of me the first time I let go of the tranny brake. On one pass I tried to stage with the back tires. ops: ops: I laughed harder than anyone and wouldn't have traded it for the world.

Curtis
I think that was directed at me.
Oh, I see. A big ole DUH from me. I should have caught that without looking like a real goofball! Curtis, every time I see a 'chopper, I think about RA, hope all is well my friend.

Dirka, you are getting ready to have some serious fun if you have never been on a track before. My first run ever was July 18, 2009. It was an absolute blast for an old man!! 11.3 seconds and a whopping 46.99mph.
ROFLMAO
Good luck on the track and wishing your wife a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the thoughts Rudy, you wouldn't believe how often I think of Jay and your family. RA is coming in tomorrow for about 10 days. Bringing his girl home to meet mom.

First I hope your wife goes through her surgery ok. Please let us know.
Second, You have to get some video of your first trip to the track. You may make 1,000 passes in your lifetime, but you'll only make one first pass!! And we want to see it too!!
GOOD LUCK!!

Well of course I am going to be video taping my very first run and let all of y'all see it. I will never keep anything like that from you guys. The only thing that sucks is I got to wait till I'm out of the big sandbox to do that. So it will be a lil bit. Plus I got to build the car. I seen a 1956 Chevy stepside that I was thinking bout making a prostreet. What you guys think about that? Or should I go with a car instead of a truck? The reason being a truck is I found one for 1700.

DirkaDirka,
I hope you wife's hospital time goes well. We all pray and support for each other and the events that occur in our lives. There are so many members that I feel I know personally, but have never actually met.

As far as the first run. As many time as you go over it in your head and practice, there is no substitute for the first experience. Things will seem to happen in double time!! Just keep your wits and focus-focus-focus.

Good luck!!

Dave

Thanks for the support from all of you guys. I just wish when I do my first run at least one of you guys would be there but I dont know if you guys will still be racing or not. It will be in a couple years but I still cant wait. I think that would be awesome. Who knows I might have to drive back east just to run my first trip down the track. Wouldnt you guys just love that one?? So instead of seeing it on video you can laugh at me at the track!!

Trucks are cool, but I would build a car. Cars are more aerodynamic, easier to get good tried and true race parts. Not to mention typically are easier to sell when you get ready to upgrade. Don't get me wrong nothing wrong with being different, heck look at me, but a good quality NORMAL race car is a much easier first project. You can't go wrong with a Msss stange, (just can't quit say it, but I'm trying!) Camaro, Monte Carlo, Nova, Chevy II etc..
Take your time and make a good purchase!!!!
