1988 Ford Mustang LX Coupe V8 Chassis. This is a serious street or strip project featuring a high-end, period-correct mechanical build inside a highly sought-after factory V8 5-Speed LX Notchback chassis. My father and I built this car together utilizing premium name-brand components throughout, and it is an incredibly stout setup for anyone looking for a bulletproof drag radial or bracket racing foundation.
The heart of the car is a balanced DSS Pro Bullet 331ci Stroker short block equipped with an aggressive, track-ready lope from an X303 cam, a main support girdle and a drag racing windage tray. It is topped with AFR 185cc aluminum cylinder heads with 2.02 intake and 1.6 exhaust valves, secured by premium ARP studs. Induction is handled by an Edelbrock Performer RPM II intake manifold and plenum paired with an Edelbrock 70mm throttle body. The ignition system features an MSD Pro Billet distributor, MSD 6AL ignition control box, and underdrive pulleys. The fuel delivery is managed by a Ford Racing mass air conversion kit running a 1993 Cobra computer calibration, feeding Ford Racing sky-blue 24lb/hr fuel injectors supplied by a 255lph high-flow fuel pump. Engine oiling is protected by a heavy-duty Moroso oil pan with its own windage tray.
The exhaust system consists of premium BBK ceramic-coated shorty headers flowing into a matching BBK 2.5-inch off-road H-pipe, which dumps out through a stainless steel Pypes cat-back exhaust system for that classic small-block Ford muscle tone.
The drivetrain is built to handle abuse, featuring a built C6 automatic transmission equipped with a 2,800 RPM stall speed torque converter. Power is sent through a custom driveshaft with a safety loop into a fully built 8.8 rear end. The rear end features a premium Auburn Pro limited-slip differential, Moser hardened axles, and a 4.10 rear gear set.
The chassis and suspension are fully locked down for maximum launch traction. It features Kenny Brown subframe connectors to prevent body twist. The rear suspension utilizes a complete, matching Southside Machine traction package, including Southside heavy-duty upper control arms and their legendary Southside lift bars acting as the lower arms to mechanically plant the tires. The car rides on a dedicated drag suspension setup consisting of 90/10 front struts, front drag lift springs, and 50/50 rear shocks to achieve that perfect weight-transfer rear squat on launch. A TCI line lock rollstop system is also installed.
Inside the cockpit, the car features a classic SVO tachometer with an integrated shift light along with AutoMeter Phantom white-faced oil and fuel pressure gauges mounted in a dual dash pod on the flat section of the dash. Gear selection is handled by a Hurst Pistol Grip Quarter Stick shifter.
Please note that this is a mechanically complete high-performance build that needs cosmetic completion. The exterior needs to be painted, the seats need to be reupholstered, and it will require new exterior rubber weatherstripping. I am including a brand new interior carpet kit still in the box to get the next owner started. This is an incredible package of parts and an excellent chassis structure for a fast winter project. The car is being sold strictly as-is, where-is with a clear title and in hand. The title has an 'Exceeds Mechanical Limits' odometer brand due to a clerical box-checking error during a previous title transfer. Serious inquiries only. Vehicle will not be released until funds have fully cleared.
