This short block is intended for light boost to about 1,100 crank horsepower. The Callies Compstar center counterweighted crank with stock stroke brings a lot to the party. Having 8 instead of 6 counterweights increases stiffness by 25%. Harmonics are reduced because each cylinder has its own two counterweights. These two factors combine to minimize crank flexing thereby protecting the block, bearings and rods from excessive wear and fatigue. We have seen that using 8 counterweight cranks essentially eliminates the uneven bearing wear that often occurs in LS engines with the standard 6 counterweight crankshafts.
In our opinion, a seasoned block that we have precision machined, engraved and serialized with our CNCs is a better foundation than a new block new from GM. It certainly offers more value. We push these seasoned 6.0L blocks well over 1,000 hp with no problem. That's however way beyond the capabilities of the stock cast crank and GM's powdered metal rods.
Keeping the stroke at 3.625 inches brings its own set of benefits. A stock stroke engine revs up faster than one with a stroker crank. This helps turbos spool faster. Shorter stroke rotating assemblies are also inherently stronger. Think of snapping a short versus long stick.
Diamond R Series pistons with a -15cc dish are standard. Flat top pistons are also available and work well running with either alcohol or NA on pump gas. Our CNC hone finishes are tailored specifically to your application. The pistons are paired with Callies Compstar H-beam rods to complete the rotating assembly. Manley Platinum series pistons and rods may be used depending upon customer preference and availability.
This ad's video shows one of these 370ci shortblocks running E98 and pushing out 1,148 hp with a 76mm Bullseye turbo and our CNC'd version of the Brodix cathedral port head.. The photo set has a picture of a D1-X ProCharged build which did 1,063 hp on pump gas.
