1957 Ariel Square Four Mk II This 1957 Ariel Square Four Mk II is an exceptional example of one of Britain’s most iconic motorcycles. Powered by the legendary 997cc Edward Turner–designed four-cylinder engine, essentially two parallel OHC twins paired together, it produces approximately 40–42 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and delivers a sound often compared to a British V-8 motorcycle. The bike features a 4-speed transmission, single SU MC2 carburetor, 12-volt electrics, telescopic front forks, and plunger rear suspension. With a claimed top speed of 100 mph, a weight of roughly 435 lbs, and smooth, perfectly balanced power delivery, it offers a surprisingly refined and comfortable ride. Performance is strong and consistent, reportedly running 12.9-second passes repeatedly. This example has been fully restored to a concours-level “10”, with flawless paint and chrome and less than 0.4 miles since restoration. Everything presents and functions as it should. Production was extremely limited, with only 3,828 Square Fours built between 1953 and 1959, making this a rare opportunity to own a beautifully restored, historically significant British motorcycle that is as collectible as it is enjoyable.
