DISCLAIMER:
I don't know anything about FORDS except the distributor is in the wrong spot.
A friend of mine in High School had a Ford 4X4 and he always said it had a "351 MODIFIED 400"
I always figured he was full of crap making stuff up.....So there really was such a turd? Next question HOW the hell can it be a 351 and a 400? :?
I guess I can start saying I have a 454 modified 540.

It's a 351 M. "M", NOT MODIFIED like many peopele call it. The M means the motor was made in Michigan. The 400 is just that a 400. BOTH ARE TURDS!! I had a good sounding 400 but the ports and intake runners are just too small to get good power out of 'em.
The best thing about a 351M or 400 is you can throw them in the river and put a 429 or 460 in it's place.
A long time ago I was a Frrrrrd guy. I do still like the late 70's 4 wheel drives.

I would not ever be ashamed to have a 351 "C"... a buddy had one in a Mustang that ran very hard... bone stock. You would have had to put money in anything else to make it run like that. I will say that I have had a few 360's in old 4wd Fords that were complete turds though... I do agree that the 400M is the stinkiest TURD ford put out like the 305 is Chevy's worst V8 I can think of.
Ever been shocked by a distributor while the car is running??? I have. One thing I like about Fords: I would rather get shocked in the front of the motor than get it in the back while the fan blade cuts into my guts & I am flailing around trying to get away....
Man, did I just have a major REDNECK moment back there or what????
I am goin to git bak to mi TV dinnir at mi singlewide... I can hear mama hallarin at me... gotta go

Cleveland is a good bit wider. Made as a 351 not an oversized 302. Lots of variants of the cleveland heads, not all manifolds are interchangeable
