Total timing for racing chevy 358
I am working on my new race car, I didnt build it, flat tappet cam unknown specs,brodix trak 1, i was told 11 to 1 comp, msd pro billit with locked timing. car is low 7 in the 1/8 it has 38 degrees initial/total timing.
starts fine , is that too much too little starting point. Max rpms are 6250 +-
750 holley on single plane, 8 inch converter t 350 411 rear

i wouldn't say 38 degree's is too little starting point...probably a good place to start.
if the engine hasn't been dynoed you just dont know where the sweet spot is without testing the car.
i have ran 40 dergee's on small blocks in the past..( nautral aspirated)
just remember Timing is gonna give you more bottom end while taking away from the Top end and vice versa
same thing with valve adjustment..( tight setting more bottom end) (loose setting more top end)

a friend of mine has a 355 kind of like urs run mid 7s 1/8 mile
and he ran 36 degrees timing all the time
and that dang truck loved it it would run a hole in the wind
it had an 11 to 1 comp, flat tappet cam 495 lift and 290 duration,
vortec heads and long tubes
