The Modified, Pro Stock, and Sportsman competitors will be vying not only for their purse earnings on this special night, but for the added prize monies that will be a part of each division’s cash earnings.
The “race within a race” night of Modified competition continues to grow as numerous supporters for the SDS event continue to donate to the existing $7600 to win share of the total SDS purse of $31,500. Added prize money to date includes a $2,000 sponsorship by Bart Contracting, Inc. (Copake, NY) for the Lap 46 leader of the feature. Owner Bart DeRocha has also committed an additional $3,000 for the top finishers of the Lap 46 invert (invert rules will be announced shortly).
Additional feature prizes include $76 to the fastest driver from the timed hot laps sponsored by Palmer’s Service Center (Cobleskill, NY); heat winners will earn an added $108 courtesy of Weedsport Speedway (Weedsport, NY), and Last Chance Showdown winners will collect $76 from RacingJunk.com (North Adams, MA). The leader of lap 8 of the feature will earn $146 courtesy of Pro Angle General Contracting (Ballston Spa, NY) and the lap 18 leader will earn $146 courtesy of Greg’s Towing & Repair, Voorheesville, NY).
Also, part of the Modified feature payout will be for the driver who finishes 8th in the feature event as they will receive a $118 bonus sponsored by Greg’s Towing & Repair. Palmer’s Service Center will also sponsor the 18th-place feature finishing driver with a $118 bonus.
In addition to the feature race bonuses, contributions have been made for some rather unique parts of the Modified SDS race including:
• $100 from the New York State Stock Car Association for the first NYSSCA member to cross the finish line
• $50 from Palmer’s Service Center / Racing for the driver who draws spot 76 at sign-in
• $250 to the first driver to “krash” and having to be towed to the pit and not returning to the race courtesy of Krash Menders (Albany, NY)
• $46 from Krash Menders for each of the following: first driver one lap down on lap 46; first driver to go to the pit area with a flat tire, first driver to drop out of the race due to a mechanical issue (non-tire), first driver one lap down at lap 76 and the first driver to get a flat tire who stays on track (doesn’t pit to change tire).
• $113 “Ted Christopher Hard Charger Award” for the driver who passes the most cars in the first 13 laps of the feature sponsored by 1670 Sports & Entertainment LLC
• $100 from Ferris Mowers for the driver who by “mowing down the competition” passes the most cars on lap 72
• $76 from Krash Menders for the “Sacre Blue” moment of the race
• $200 from Area Auto Racing News for the first Albany-Saratoga non-SDS driver to not qualify.
To date, nearly $13,000 in feature prize money, unique bonuses, and individual lap sponsors have been pledged by members of the Albany-Saratoga Speedway family and friends of the Davies family. Their support for the tribute event in memory of Don Davies is appreciated by Lyle and Marcy DeVore, and Jo Ann, Brian, and Amber Davies.
