We have a real street class here in Fla I thought maybe that is what you were racing. Not sure if you have ever been on dragcoverage.com but If not you can go check out some of the pics on there, Those cars are really fast like 5.70 stock supension & no wheelie bars!

Here are a few pics of my previous cars, the first was our black 282 spitzer aero w/598 big chief motor, It was sold to make way for our orange supercharged 360CI w/powerglide 262mike bos car. Next was our black 242" mike bos car, that was traded to make way for our new 265' mike bos. It's currently having a supercharged 434sbc in it  We are currently in the process of negotiating for a 3 speed lenco to put behind it too, should be a fun piece when we get her finished! Buy sell trade, thats the name of the game for me... I guess? BTW the vid posted was when the car had a broke torque converter, it's running considerably better now.

Should be better with the rebuilt bigger motor. Actually its heavy. All real glass and steel body parts. Not sure I believe around 3,600 pounds. Plus my 280. :D

Nice launch on that cutlas, had a friend had one the same year.
He stuck a 501 cadilac motor in it, topped it off with a 750 holley, performer intake and homemade headers. It ran 7.20's 1/8 right out the box, behind it get this a 200r tranny!!!! He ran it for 2 years and never broke anything, I was amazed
Called it the Cutilac......lol

Finally getting some run time on the new motor. Lets just say it has a ton of torque! lol. Literally it does. This pic is sbout 30' off the line. Not bad for a 3,600lb truck. Still needs some adjusting, but got it down to 3.159sec. in 200' on it's 3rd pass since new motor and rear end. Should get it to 3.0?? soon.

I sold this car in 05 due to financial issues to a guy that lived in Imlay City, MI. He since then sold the car to some one else. I have been looking to get this car back for several years at all cost. If anybody has any info on this car I'm willing to pay a finders fee. The 2nd picture was the last one taken of car the day of sale.

Thanks Scooter. If I can keep the front end on the ground I'm gonna get my 60' in the low 1.3's maybe high 1.2's this weekend!! Not bad for 3,450lbs (no driver no Nos.) in the mud. If I can't keep it down I'm working on a wheelie bar that'll keep it down! I let my engine builder SVRE, drive it last weekend and he got out of it at 175'!! Wasn't use the G's he said!
This is one of the bad boys! It's called the Boogie Man. It has a 706 Steve Schmitt motor. His brother owns a truck called Dirty Sanchez. They are 1st and 2nd in the points so far this year in both NMRO and MRA. I'm one of 8 reps for the MRA ( Mud Racers Association) and I tech every race vehicle.

What can I say... that is just badass!! 706 in that platform has to be AWESOME!!! Something tells me you should get the wheelie-bar... you are close to needing it now (based on the pic) & I know you will graduate to that need down the road anyways... the quest for more ponies. Scooter, Yes, it can squat a little more about 2 1/2 more inches, but I do need a little longer shock on the back.
706's are becoming the norm for Pro Stock trucks ( 3,000lbs) in Mud racing. CI's are unlimited, but we only allow 1 carb to keep some kind of limit on it.

You probably want find 100lbs of steel ( body parts) in all these trucks combined! Cabs, front clips and doors are fiberglass or carbon fiber. The rear fenders are about all that's steel and their just at the most 22ga. sheetmetal . These trucks are min 3000lbs with dots and 2800lbs with cuts. Most weight 2,500lbs to 2,800lbs and have to add weight to run.
Video from last nights bracket race. I red lighted in the final pair :x :x , but not in this one. However, I did get my 60' times down to 1.345.

Most of those pics were from LaPorte Indiana in May. We were at the RPM Fest at the LaPorte Co Fair grounds. We will be in Ks on Aug 22, Transfer Pennsylvania Aug 29, and our final points race will be in Kanawha County, West Virginia on Sept 12. I'm also working on a Quick 16 @ Neeses, Sc on October 24.
I should have posted our race dates for you guys.
I'll post the 2010 schedule somtime in January or February once we have it complete.
Thanks guys and sorry for taking up the whole page

The motor, clutch, front and rear axle are where all the weight comes from. Even running light weight aluminum brakes / rotors and hubs the front axle (Dana 30) is still pretty heavy. + a 200 lb driver. Not sure what this bare frame weights, but it's pretty light.
It's not easy to build a Big Block (aluminum block) 4 wheel drive rail SAFELY and get it under 2,450 lbs. Most new rides like this one are chrome moly so you can use smaller tubing and make them lighter.
BTW those paddle tires we get from ya'll. They're worn out slicks that have the paddles vulcanized to them. You put the # of paddles to the amount of HP you have. Less hp power will have less paddles. Some guys stagger them too.
We're having our final points race in West Virgina next weekend. (September 12, 2009. Kanawha County, West Virginia. Fair Grounds)
We're also going to have a Quick 16 door slammer race at Neeses, Sc. on October 24.

You can see in the background how many people are in these pit crews.
Some come with as many as 5 or six guys to help.
They don't get as muddy as you think. We're kind of a mix between mud racing and sand drags. This track needed a bunch more water on it to be honest. The more water the more it hooks. (not to much water of course).
BJ we're having a big Door Slammer shootout on October 24 in Neeses, Sc at Thunder Valley Motorplex. It's not very far for you. You should come watch! We could round up some tires for you if you want us too!!

LOL Brian, I was thinking the same thing, reminded me of a buddy of mine who used to run a late models at riverside in West Memphis, Ark.
Sunday Morning he spent 2 hours and about $40 at the local car wash.
Then spend the rest of the week scraping, scrubbing, pounding and straightened out bent body panels, welded up broke stuff etc, but without a doubt come Saturday it was spotless and ready to go.
Only to do it all over agian, man that would drive me insane.

The way we race at these races it's just wet enough to make the tracks hook. You can make 10 passes and not get very muddy.
This track needed more water to make it hook more.
This is the Heartbeat of America car. It's the only video I have from the race. He didn't place in the top 5. This was the 1st race for this new car so don't worry he'll get it right!

Heidt's would be the way to go (IMHO). I did all this with raw steel stock, probably took me close to 120 hours+. I wished I had the resources at the time to use a pre-fab'd set-up.
In regards to your 2.3 - it just so happens I have a turbo intake taking up space in my attic. I can't remember if it's for a 2.0 liter or 2.3, but is set up for a garret T-3 and a Holley 2 bbl. lemme know if you're interested.

am asking this question in an "educate me" tone (am not questioning your set up)
You have a 4 stage dry sump with all stages pulling from the pan, why not from the lifter valley or rear of the heads ?
also - what kind of carburetion will you have on this ?
TheRabbit
11-09-2009, 01:14 PM
The majority of the oil is gonna be in the pan and the lines have to be completly submerged in oil to work. Oil drainage from the heads and lifter valley would not be enough to supply the pump.
AED carb running Q16 fuel.

Interesting...
I run mine from the pan only as well, and have thought I was lacking by not having it pulling from other passages.
Other set-ups I've seen (like on nascar dry systems [no - am not a nascar fan] - or formula) I've seen where they have 2 of the 4 stages pulling from ea. side of the rear of the head, one pulling from the back of the lifter valley (thru the block - or down thru intake) and one from the pan... but have also seen like yours - pulling from the pan only.
I guess as long as your getting the oil where it needs to be it's all good.
TheYellaBrick
11-10-2009, 10:08 AM
Because NASCAR races are an 'endurance' type of engine activity, they use vast quantities of oil to cool the valve trains, hence return lines at the rear of the heads.

OK plane and simple ( which is how I asked him to explain it to me)
You want to create the most amout of vacuum possible with the oil pump. With only 4 stages like mine you put all of them in the pan under the rings.
6 stages you would put the other 2 in the head and lifter valley which really helps keep the windage down.
Hey thanks for the ? I learned something new.

You want to create the most amout of vacuum possible with the oil pump. With only 4 stages like mine you put all of them in the pan under the rings.
6 stages you would put the other 2 in the head and lifter valley which really helps keep the windage down.
Hey thanks for the ? I learned something new.
good to know - Thanks

I bought the truck last weekend. The owner is going to piant it and do a few other things that we agreed too. It would take me a year and no way could I build a truck as neat and clean as this one.
My motor is getting freshened up by SVRE. Once I get it back all I have to do is put my motor and ignition box in and a seat and I'm ready to race.
I'll post some pics when I get it done. BTW guys I met Rudy (Hollaway) this weekend. Super nice guy!!

67 camaro convert. 396, 4 speed, 3:73s, ran a best of 13.01 at 113mph, street tires, (my wife wont let me race it any more, so I got another one).
67 camaro, 496, 13:1, brodix heads, roller cam, should be 650-700hp, glide, currie 9 inch. Been working on it for a while now, started off with a roof and rotted out floor. Should be ready for spring just need some paint and a drive shaft.

Well while home in NV we also picked up another Mustang for the wifey. Good chances that this one is going to be turned into a street/strip car for her to have fun in too. It needs a lil bit of work done to it so we are not to concerned with tearing into it and putting in a roll cage and all that. Right now it has a V6 under the hood but will have a V8 after I get my hands on it.

If he buys ANY parts for his new ride from you make sure you sell him a good old FRAM oil filter, some watered down racing gas and some old spark plugs. LOL. I'm glad he's building a new ride, but I sure hope it takes him a couple of years to get it going. Maybe that way I'll have a chance to win a race or two. LOL. Rudy. That sounds like a good plan to me. Steve moved to frickin Texas on me!! Not sure when I'll get up that way, but if nothing else I'll just make a trip one weekend and come up.
This brings me to another thing I've been thinking about. I wonder if a few of us could find a half way point and get together this winter or (fall)?? There just may be some b. s.'n and beer drinkin involved!!
Thanks!!
You know that is an excellent plan. The only thing is I am only back in the states maybe a couple times a year. I might be back in the states in Jan for a 30 day vacation tho. Plus might even be back east in TN so I could pick up my Stang from storage in Ohio. Wont know for positive till time gets closer tho.

I'm game for a road trip to hang with gearheads!
WTH, Steve moved to Texas! I wonder if he moved all his shop stuff as well.....Thats a shame for this area, nice guy that cares about his work.
What is the closest Madd Rabbit will be runnung this season? What about the track near Raleigh, (I think).

Steve moved to Tx to teach a class (head work). I forget the name of the school, but it's where he went to school. He does still have his stuff at his shop in Concord. He's not really taking on any more motor work, but still taking care of the customers he already had.
Sorry I didn't answer you question about the track in Sanford. They are a Hill n Hole track and not gonna have any flat track races for Pro Stock trucks this year.
Not much close to Raleigh that I know about. There has to be something close. I'll look and see if I can find anything. I will be racing Sept. 26th-27th Cartersville, Virginia, but that's almost 4hrs away. Neeses, Sc on July 17. It will be a heads up quick 16. It by far is the best race to come to, but it’s also 4hr from Nc.

Rudy I found the problem. I guess you were kinda right  . I had a web site listed in this reply and for some reason it would not show up any of my mssg. The strange part is my pm to you was blank and it didn't have any links in it. I think the email did, but the pm did not.
I thought one of the mods got mad because they figured out that my mud truck could out run their car!! lol

I tried to post a pic of mine but it won't work. I have done it before in this section with no problems.

This is my brothers ride, 'Showtime". This is a 2008 picture and since then we've put the rear cuts up front, added 39.5" cuts out back and added a 700hp Bowtie. Our 2010 season is is limited to the test track, however, as we are finding out that adding torque surfaces the weak links! We are almost ready though and hopefully will finish season with a few quick passes and a few more turned heads and raised eyebrows!

Why run such a big tire on the front and the dana 44? It's killing you ya know. 35 hawgs would be a bunch lighter and the dana 30 alone is 70lbs lighter. Looks cool BTW.

Only fiberglass stuff is the front end, hood and rear bumper.
Still has a steel trunk lid and steel doors.
The doors are getting replaced this winter, the trunk lid might as well also.
Car was around 3240 with me in it and runs in the low 9's
Its a stock frame rail car other then the backhalf.
Its got right around 1100hp with no spray and no other power
adders. 1100hp all motor.

Looks like a Steve Schmidt dyno sheeet. Schmidt builds some dam good motors. The top Pro Stock trucks in mud racing run his 706's and 632's and they hold the national records too. He also has an 840ci motor in the Modified class doing pretty well too!

Yup, it is a Schmidt dyno sheet.
I bought the motor used from him.
