I have been looking for desk or table to setup down in the mancave to use for building models, working on small parts, hold my beer, etc...
So the people that my wife rents her salon space from run a moving service. They tell her they have this desk, leftover a move they were hired for and the customer didn't want the desk, its ours if we want it cause they were just gonna set it on the curb for the trash man. I check it out, its actually pretty cool with a wooden rolltop, drawers across the front and a file storage area in the rear. So we haul it home, clean it up and I start doing a little research. Turns out its a high dollar piece, designed by George Nelson and made by Herman Miller Inc. Kind of a art deco piece part of the Action Office series made in the 60's and worth some serious cash!! I found a few that have sold anywhere from $2-4.5K!!
What the hell?!?!?!?
I have never been into collectible furniture and would have never known what this thing was without a internet search, blew the wife and I away.

I found an original tag in one of the drawers, the wood is called "gunstock" and says not to use furniture polish but to use wood or gunstock oil on the finish.
The detail is pretty cool and it weighs a ton, great solid piece that I plan putting to work in the cave.

That is a nice piece by the way I have the same Don Garlits poster hanging up and it autographed from 2003 US nationals my first trip to see it.

That's a nice find. I'm not into antiques either, but sometimes you just happen to find the right piece for the right place.
