Hello all...

I have a 1976 Chevy Impala Custom with a stock 350TH tranny. My 383 Stroker (est. 500hp) will be completed in a few weeks, and I would like to swap out the 350TH for a 700R4. Stock rear has been changed to a 8.5" 10 bolt 3.73 POSI.

Question 1: Can any one recommend a reliable Performance Transmission builder in my area (Downriver, Michcigan)?

Question 2: Will I need to have my Driveshaft shortened or the Trans support bracket changed out?

Thank you for your feedback.

I think you would be better off with the TH350 but I would ask an expert on that. Call Dion Vickers. He will help you out. Tell him I told you to call. 330-584-3679.

500hp + Heavy car + 700r4 = Parts flyin.

I have never had any luck with 700r4's.

I would suggest building the 350 turbo up.

Well...

I had considered the 700R4 based on the lower gear ratio in First, and the overdrive gear for highway cruising.

Since my highway miles will be very limited, the 350 could do if I can get it to hold up to the extra HP.

The biggest task then becomes finding a reputiable source locally to get a Built up 350TH.

Especially after reading about Mad Dog or who ever they are now...

Thanks for your posts.

If you can get a core you might think about building a turbo 400. More parts available and even tougher than the 350. Just and idea.

You can build a bullet proof 700R4, but it is very expensive. Your looking to spend around 2500 to 3000 for trans and converter.
You should look into a 4L80E.
