I have no empirical proof these are true but they would be hard to argue otherwise.

Curtis

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush. He answered by saying, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of it's fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return."

It became very quiet in the room.

Then there was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break one of the French engineers came back into the room saying "Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intend to do, bomb them?"

ABoeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: "Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. =We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?"

Once again, dead silence.

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., Enflish, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drings, but a French admiral suddenly complained that, "whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English." He than asked, "Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?" Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied "maybe it is because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged ti so you wouldn't have to speak German."

You could have heard a pin drop!

Those are Great Here is one that can be backed up

Marine Corps General Reinwald was interviewed on the radio and you'll love his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children. Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you gotta love this! It is a portion of National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military installation.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Reinwald, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL REINWALD: We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?

GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL REINWALD: Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?

The radio went silent and the interview ended.

You gotta love the Marines!

My son is a Blackhawk pilot and is leaving with the 101st in early Jan. to go to Afganistan. Last week I got to get in a simulator with him and find out what it is like to fly a Blackhawk. He said I did a great job for my first time. I was able to hover without to much movement, take off and sort of land without killing us. We spent and hour and a half in there and I was worn out when we finished. That was on of the hardest things I've done in a while, kinda like herding chickens. Would love to get to do it again though. :D :D

Rudy I love the pics and quotes man. I could never get tired of them. I talked to my son yesterday, he called me for my birthday. He said he has been flying a lot of missions. He sounded really tired, but in a good "this is what I want to do kind of way". Keep it up man.

Curtis,
The pictures and quote collection being shared is attributed to the man in the picture, Bill Coffey.

It is odd you ask that though, just yesterday, after 2 years and eight months, we finally found the will to open Jays personal laptop computer. We are blown away by the pictures we found in there!! Jay is a published poet, we are going to try to figure out a way to share both his pictures and his poems at the same time. It may be awhile, but expect some of his stuff soon!!

Give your son an "attboy" for us :!:

Oh yeah, Happy Birthday!

Thanks for the kind words, I hope so too. The pictures and quotes help me stay in focus! Curtis and Murff hope we your "boys" are doing well and "taking care of business" as we play today.

We will release some very good pictures Jay took in his short time in Iraq soon. We just very recently had the want or will to open his personal laptop, WOW!! There are some beautiful pictures!! My wife is in the process of protecting the rights to them. Would love to publish his poems and pictures in a book. Thanks for reading this if you did, I needed to talk about Jay, we miss him dearly. Later............

Good point Rudy! Hey- I got a 48 yr old Uncle in Iraq right now who was sent over there (Army) & carries the gun & armor just like the 20yr olds who is honored to serve... he getting older & I just ask you to pray for him... he has another year yet. His mane is "Sam Mize"... he has a great atittude given the circumstances. He told me in a letter: " I feel Honored to walk on the same ground where Jesus was long ago"... wow. He is carrying 90 to 100lbs of gear too. Says that he hopes to be be back, but no guarantees... said "just know that I love you all & I am proud to serve my country" he tells me he hopes he has a chance to play with my 2 kids (his neice & nephew 6&4yrs). Talk about persective of how good we got right now... brought tears to my eyes thinking if he will see my kids again. I get so damn PISSED when I see Obamas face now it makes me sick thinking of how he visited Iraq reciently & got out of the jet & did not salute or shake the hands of the troops who were there by him.... just got into a bullet proof truck & went to nearest safe building... SOB!!! Anyways, pray for Sam. Thank you all & God bless you. Rigsby.

Yep, lets keeper going. my uncle just got sent to Germany from Iraq to serve as a temporary medical assistant. I guess sometimes they grab a soldier or two to help do medical runs or something. Anyways, my company (Bowtech) just sent a bunch of bows over to Iraq for the soldiers to shoot & have fun with while over there. Many of our bows are named after the Military like the Airborne 101st, 82nd, "the General", Commander, Allegiance, etc.. the soldiers seem to like our bows & we like to name them after our country & people who protect it. I got to have the pleasure of helping a Marine get a bow just the other day... told him thanks for the service. He was headed back for another tour in a month... God bless them all.

I have no clue as to why they are related, but you can believe the weather and sadness work together. I will be fine as soon as my pit crew and crew chief (wife) return home safely at the end of the day. :)
This picture was about 1 year before he joined the USMC, he is saddling Bucky up for a ride. We sure miss you Jay!

Rudy,
God Bless your family for the contributions you have made to keeping America the Freedom Beacon of the World. We all gotta stay strong as ever and do it TOGETHER.
Our boys and girls in the sand are fighting the most difficult and important fight the world has ever seen. We back here in The World are fighting a different fight that is just as important against internal forces that hate America and what we stand for. How can you hate a nation who gives so much to the peoples of the world and yet ask for NOTHING in return ????
I'm glad to see that Gearheads are on the Right side here !

Hey Rudy-

I have to admit, I have posted on this thread before & admired it each time. It was not until TODAY that I realized what happend (not the first time I am the last one to "get it") It was today that I realized you lost your son Jay.

In two hours, my family is having a party (returning from Iraq party for my Uncle in law Sam). That is why I went to this thread before I go this party. I wanted to say hello to everyone & celebrate. He has been home now for about 3 weeks. I debated once I knew about Jay if I should post at all.... I thought how unfair it is for us to be be celebrating this day knowing that you are many miles away... greiving the loss of your son. But then I thought about this: Jay is one of the reasons why I am celebrating Sam's return today. It is because of people like Jay that we remember why we are here doing what we do. At best, today is bitter-sweet as me & the kid's going to this celebration of my uncles return from Iraq.

Here's the thing- I beleieve that there is a reason for everything. There is a reason that I found this thread today & found out about Jay while at the same time I will be celebrating Sam's return. Whatever the reason may be, Jay will be honored by all when I get there... your family will be prayed for when I get there, & Jay's bravery & service will be mentioned & will not be in vein. Thank God for people like Jay... thank God. Today before we eat, I will gather everyone for grace & we will pray over you & your family.

I am sorry I did not know... guess my ADD is still there from childhood a little... but now I know & I can pray about it. I think it is healthy for you to talk about Jay if you feel like it... we are your support & family from far away too. I cannot imagine your pain, but I can pray about it & ask God to help. I am sure Jay is a fine man & WE THANK YOUR FOR SHARING YOUR PAIN WITH US. I/we support you & your family. If you need anything, just PM me. Rigsby

Riggs,
Thanks for the kind words my friend! No need to worry about not knowing about Jay until recently.
Thank Sam for his service for us, without these men we would be in a world of of total anarchy.

Jay was killed on 10/21/05, we buried him on 11/2/05.
I seem to be very unorganized in my feelings this time of year. Our favorite time to fish, hunt and just generally be outdoors. But unfortunately for me, it has turned into what seems like some form of punishment over the last couple of years.

Just when you think it is getting easier, WHAM, fall settles in and returns with the overcast days that provide wayyyyyy tooooo much time to think about what could have been.

I must tell you guys, without my beautiful wife Cynthia and my younger boys Luke and Wes, I do not think I could handle this.

I have really never had very much heartbreak in my life, I think sometimes God saved it all up for me and gave it to me all at once.

Curt, I know you are reading this too. Tell your son we are very thankful and hope for his safe return. In fact, this goes out to EVERYONE with a loved one taking care of our freedom and safety.

Thanks for reading this if you did, I really needed to let some of this out.

Will post more pics soon.

Well Rudy, I sure sympathize about your memories of the fall & hunting & such. We have that comon understanding, hunting is some much more than harvesting an animal. I am sure that Jay would tell you to get back out there sometime & go hunting. In fact, It would be my honor to give you a bow from my company (Bowtech) such as a Airborne 82nd or an Admiral. When that day comes, you let me know & I will send you a bow to hunt with in your son's honor. I think God really has a special place in his heart for those who gave everything they had to protect the innocent & keep the peace. If it is one thing that should help you is knowing that your son is in a better place waiting for you & your family. Who knows, we may all be going there soon with the way things are going. Keep the faith & know you have friends that support you.

Riggs,
I gotta tell you man, I haven't been on a hunt since winter of '04. I really have lost the want to go anymore. I haven't changed my view on hunting, it should be for food and keeping the population down. For some weird reason, I just don't want to kill anymore. But don't let that lead you to thinking I won't EAT a steak or venision, I do know it is me still at the top of the food chain!  Your offer is very generous, but the bow would go unused here, I rarely even shoot targets anymore. I included a picture of my bow, it is around 25 years old, still as true as my sweetheart!! Go ahead, show your buds at work the relic I use, it will get a good laugh!
Doorracer, tell R.A. thanks for everything! I know you can't wait to see his face my friend, I sure know that feeling!

Thanks for the picture of the old Bear... have not seen one of those in awhile. I understand that some things are just not as important or have the same meaning as when they used to. One day at a time....

TT Sam the other day. He is not the same. I think he is having trouble being a civilian again. I am sure he saw some things that were tough over there. It's like he is nervous all the time or something. He still has his faith & is glad to be home though.

Anyways, keep your chin up & God bless you & your family.

Rigsby,
It took me 7 years of fighting my way into and out of bars and jobs and blowing through 2 marriages before I started 'settling down' after the 'Nam. We didn't have a fraction of the help available to us then as our folks do now. Watch Sam and give him space and don't pry too hard. Combat vets develop a super close relationship with their buds that cannot be replaced back in the world. We go through withdrawls from heavy, heavy adrenalin, the intense action and 1000% focus on your surroundings every second of your existence. It really is a form of addiction. Get him into a race car ! That's a close resemblance to combat focus, action, and adrenalin. That's why I race.

The finest most powerful military in the world... all of the excellent people who serve... the greatest country in the world.

I have seen a few counrties in my day... as a military brat growing up... everytime the jet touched its wheels on American ground after being away for so long... I would get GOOSE-BUMPS everytime!! Talk about being greatful after not seeing Americans for 2& 1/2 years.... living in Yokosuka, Japan.

I would literally be euphoric for days waking up every day in America every day again. All of this.... the food, the events, speaking my own language.... the Flag I am so proud of. It is a pride only an American could know.... being a part of something others could only dream of.

In spite of a underqualified & less-than apealing president elect, there are so many of us real Americans who know what it is like to appreciate the greatest place in the world.... PERIOD. Thanks to all of those who gave it all so we could do what we do. God Bless America & the soldiers!!!!!

I don't know how to say what I feel so this might ramble a bit.

Two years ago my wife and I were traveling through Belgium. We saw a small plaque on a cement post on the side of the roadway. As we drove past we noticed an American flag on it. We turned around and read about some battles that had happened in the area back in WWI. At the bottom it mentioned a cemetary a few miles away for the American Soldiers that had lost their lives in these battles. http://www.abmc.gov/cemeteries/cemeteries/ff.php

Neither my wife nor I had an ancestor serve during WWI, but we were compelled to stop and pay our respects. We were there for about two hours and we were moved. Up to that point in my life I have never cried as hard as I did that day.

While traveling in Europe again this summer we received word that my Mom had lost her two year battle with Cancer. Her lung collapsed, she contracted pneumonia and died within 24 hours. It was the worst day of my life. I was isolated and I felt a million miles from home and family, and there was nothing anyone could do to help. I have never cried as hard as I did that day.

I'm 46 and never served in the military (my generation didn't have a war), but it didn't stop me from respecting those who did. I've been registered here for some time, but I don't think I've been to the forum before...heck I think this might be my first post.

I just completed reading through this topic. I have never cried as hard I did just now.

I sleep in comfort and warmth provided by men and women such as your son. I am sorry for your sacrifice, but it lives not in vane. Let's hope that Lincoln's word will also ring true for our current heroes..."The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here"

I run cars on the West Coast with an Historic NASCAR group. http://www.HSCRS.com We do a race each season called The Fallen Heroes Invitational. Each of us has an opportunity if we'd like to stand at the awards ceremony at the end of the weekend and mention a name and a bit about the person. With your permission I'd like to mention Jay's name.

Ladies and Gentlemen!!!!!!!!

The Feminine Side of the Marines....
A 165 grain match bullet out of a Marine M-24, bolt action, 7.62MM, 725 yards distance, point of aim, point of impact, one shot, one hit, I love it, and I am sure you do too.... I truely liked seeing her picture in the poster that was made by the Corps after that shot.... . Get some Marine Kimmy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ex-cheerleader (age 19) in the picture below was watching a road that led to a NATO military base when she observed a man digging by the road. She engaged the target, and she shot him. Turned out he was a bomb maker for the Taliban and he was burying an IED that was to be detonated when a U.S. patrol walked by 30 minutes later. It would have certainly killed and wounded several soldiers.

The interesting fact of this story is the shot was measured at 725 yards. She shot him as he was bent over burying the bomb. The shot struck him in the butt blowing him into the bomb which detonated. He was blown to pieces.

The Marines made a motivational poster of her. Her name is Kimmy. To you, Kimmy, we say, OoooRah! Thanks for your service.

Hi guys, been awhile since I posted in this thread. Sometimes you just gotta take a break!
I wanted to share this drawing with ya'll, it is not a military quote, it is a picture that Jay drew for me when he was around 8 years old or so......

http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg231/hollowayshotrods/dads%20pictures/Hummer2.jpg

I am not a believer in luck, ghosts, witchcraft etc. I rarely believe what I cannot see, I need proof. But I must say, I often wonder if this wasn't meant to make me spend more time with Jay. As most know, Jay was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq in '05, while manning the machine gun on the Humvee, travelling along a river, as seen in his drawing.

Hey Rudy,

That is an earry thought (that picture). Interesting.... I know that if you could do it all over again, you may do many things different. If you could have spent more time with Jay knowing that he would not be around in his 20's... you would have. You didn't know. It is said in the Bible that "there is no condemnation in Christ" therefore, my opinion is that you should not condemn yourself while you are greiving. Keep remembering what Jay would ask you to do while he is not here... I bet he knows you really miss him, but he wants you to live fully until you both are reunited. Keep your chin up.

dparker: I am sorry to hear about your son!! I lost a good friend that way... painful stuff. I am a father of two kids (they are young) & I often think of what I can do so they don't make the same mistakes I have made, or worse. Fact is, they are going to do what they do. It is the risk of being a parent I guess. We all seem to have some commonalities here on this forum... we all have a few skeletons, hardships, etc... but it is amazing how many here seem to believe in God. Anyways, you & Rudy are going through a parents worst nightmare. All I can say is that you are both great guys & even though I am younger than both of you & not seen what you have, I am very happy to see that you both have God in your families.

God Bless you both & keep praying... hopefully w/ the friendship here we all can help you pass some time & help each other survive this cold world we live in. Scooter

What I have learned thru all this and I'm sure Rudy has too, is that without my faith in God, friends and family I couldn't have made it. Just knowing that others genuinely care shows me Christ's love first hand and renews my faith that someday me and son will be together again as the bible tells us. A friend once asked me: if you open your door at midnight will it be daylight or dark? I responded: it will be dark. and then he asked my why. I responded: because everytime I've ever open my door at midnight its been dark. and he said yes and thats how faith is built, everytime you pray or see people showing Gods love, it reinforces that there is a God and thru him we do have eternal salvation.

A few weeks after my son died we were having a rough time going to church, it seemed every song was about him, it just hurt to much. To kinda show the impact my son had people around him, our church decided to have church that sunday in our front yard. Unbenounced to us over a hundred church members woke us up singing in our front yard, and our church uses drums and other instruments. It was unbelievable, as we listened and sang I watched hundreds of people walking up to see what was going on. Neighbors we had never seen or spoke with walked up and joined in. Probably 400 or so. As the service went on people were enquiring about why here, as the story passed around, people cried, people prayed, and people were saved. I tear up everytime I remember.
God is Great and so are his Followers. Thank you again and God Bless!!!

Dparker, Thanks for telling us that story. That is how it is supposed to be. In these times, it is good hear about Gods truth. For me is simple: God is truth, Satan is made of lies. I have great comfort knowing that God is powerful, all knowing, and the truth. I do not have to understand the mystery of faith & God... I can't anyways... God is alot smarter & powerful than I. Once I accepted that, I do not get bogged down by atheists & college professors saying that we come from apes & evolution & nonsense of the like.

I honestly could not imagine what to tell a man who has lost his son... I can't imagine... if I lost my boy... but all I can think of is faith right now. I am glad you have your faith. I am convinced your boy will be there when you finnaly come to your real home... I have no doubts. Scooter

Unfortunately I haven't gotten back around to it, it still sits as we left it. I don't know why I can't work on it, I just can't. I would never, ever consider selling it. Hopefully, one day I will put it back together the way he wanted it (I have his notes that he wrote detailing how he wanted it). I feel lots better now, just needed to relate to the commercial. The only problem with the commercial is, the cars weren't Chevrolet!
Will post a pic of his truck as it was, and as it is sitting now, later today.

May is Military Appreciation Month

With American troops engaged in the defense of freedom at home and abroad, it is important that every American show them and our nation's veterans the support and appreciation they deserve. In recognition of Military Appreciation Month, please take a moment to thank our servicemen and women and our veterans for their commitment to our nation.

Armed Forces Day today. Many special events happening all over America. Make a point in attending as well as saying a thankful prayer for each and every American in uniform protecting OUR freedom.

I attended opening ceremonies at our local Field of Honor event. They had a Warthog do a flyover right as Taps was played followed with the pipes playing Amazing Grace as he walked away amongst the Field of 100 + American flags. Each flag privately sponsored and with a yellow ribbon with a fallen hero's name on it.. Not a dry eye anywhere. The over welming feeling there amongst 300 or so Americans, was PRIDE. PRIDE in being Americans, PRIDE in our men and women in the USA military the world over. wow............

Dear Friend of Freedom Alliance,

There is no better symbol of our country’s values and traditions than the flag of the United States of America. The Star-Spangled Banner was chosen as our flag by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. This Flag Day marks the 232nd birthday of our beloved American Flag.

“Old Glory” is a symbol of honor for us all. On Flag Day, June 14, fly it proudly in honor of our brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Guardsmen, who go into battle under it and sacrifice their lives to protect it. Fly it as a reminder of our freedom and sovereignty and pray that this flag will continue to unite us a nation.

From our Founding Fathers on down, let us honor those who have pledged allegiance to our flag and have sacrificed to secure our freedom.

This Flag Day, and everyday throughout the year, Freedom Alliance works to protect our sovereignty and pay tribute to our men and women in uniform through our Support Our Troops program. The Freedom Alliance Support Our Troops program is a year-round outreach which honors those who have been wounded in combat and are recuperating in military hospitals throughout the United States, as well as those currently serving on the frontlines.

Through the generosity of so many patriotic and generous Americans the Freedom Alliance Support Our Troops program provides monetary grants to combat-wounded servicemen and women. One of these heroes, SPC Riddle, thanked Freedom Alliance for his grant in this way: “Thank you so much for your generous support. I cannot tell you how much this means to me. I really appreciate you making a special trip down here to make this happen.”

SPC Riddle, the father of four children, was injured during a military-training accident and suffered head and back injuries. His grant was used to take care of necessary family expenses.

We were also pleased and honored to provide a grant to Army Specialist Morgan, who suffered burns to his arms and injuries to his brain and abdomen resulting from an IED blast in Iraq. SPC Morgan was awarded the Purple Heart and used his grant to help with the day-to-day expenses of caring for his daughter.

On this Flag Day, please help us continue to honor the men and women who wear our nation’s uniform and fight for freedom and the preservation of “Old Glory” by flying the American Flag proudly.

On behalf of everyone at Freedom Alliance, may God bless you and may God bless the United States of America.

Gratefully,

Thomas P. Kilgannon
President

P.S. Today is the 234th Birthday of the United States Army, so please shake the hand or acknowledge anyone who has served or is currently serving in our Army.

Big and Rich 8th of November Lyrics

Said Goodbye to his moma
As he left south dakota
To fight for the Red, White and Blue
He was 19 and green with a new M16
Just doin what he had to do

He was dropped in the jungle
Where the choppers would Rumble
With the smell of Napalm in the air
Then the sergeant said, Look up ahead

Like a dark, evil cloud
1200 came down
On him and 29 more
They fought for their lives
But most of them died
In the 173rd Airborne.

On the 8th of November,
The angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around
There were few men left standing that day.
Saw the eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
1965, the 8th of November.

Now he's 58
And his ponytails gray
But the battle still plays in his head
He limps when he walks,
But he's strong when he talks
About the shrapnel they left in his leg.

He puts on a grey suit
Over his Airborne tattoo
And He ties it on one time a year
And remembers the fallen,
As he orders a tall one
And swallows it down with his tears.

On the 8th of November,
The angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around
There were few men left standing that day.
Saw the eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
1965, the 8th of November.

Saw the eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
1965.

On the 8th of November,
The angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around
There were few men left standing that day.

On the 8th of November,
The angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around,
There were few men left standing that day.
Saw the eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
1965, the 8th of November.

The 8th of November
The 8th of November

He said goodbye to his mamma
As he left South Dakota
To fight for the Red, White, and Blue.
He was nineteen and green with a new M-16
Just doing what he had to do.

From the author;

I did this as a way to honor all those who have struggled to come back from serving our country in times of war. The most interesting part for me was something I didn't find out until after I created this photoplay, was that this was Roy's second tour. He had been so gravely wounded, by stepping on a landmine, on his first tour that he was drummed out of the Army after returning. Roy built his body back up and returned to the service after proving himself fit and joined the elite Green Beret's and went back to Vietnam for a second tour for which he received the Medal of Honor.

To the thousands of supporters of Michael Behenna,

Many of you have been asking about the latest on Michael's appeal. Michaels appellate brief was filed on December 22, 2009 and the militarys response brief was due January 21, 2010. The military asked for and was granted a three-month extension to April 21, 2010. Then sometime in early April the military filed for and received yet another three-month extension making their response brief not due until July 22, 2010! But most amazing of all was that the extension was granted without notice being provided to Michaels attorneys to argue against it.
From the start of this hell we have tried to put our trust in the military justice system. But time and time again this justice system has failed this young man who defended our liberties in the face of a ruthless enemy. First it was the withholding of evidence in Michaels trial and now this. The government will have had seven months to respond to Michaels appellate brief when it should have taken only seven weeks. It appears to us that the Army is deliberately doing everything it can to delay Michaels appeal process. And for what end you ask? We may never know, just as we may never know what was really behind the Army prosecuting Michael in the first place. But in the face of these delay tactics we have become even more convinced of the strength of Michaels appeal (which the military is struggling to counter.) As Thomas Paine wrote, 'Tyranny is not easily conquered, but our consolation is that the harder the conflict, the greater the triumph.'

Despite everything Michael is faring well. He draws strength from the many letters he receives and your continued correspondence will help him leave Leavenworth the way he arrived with his head held high. Michael celebrates his 27th birthday behind bars on May 18th. This will be his second birthday in Leavenworth Prison and is yet another reminder of how long he has been away from family and friends. Please consider sending Michael a birthday card to let him know he is not forgotten and to encourage him to keep the faith. You can send your cards and letters to:

Michael Behenna #87503
1300 N. Warehouse Road
Fort Leavenworth, KS 66027-2304

Finally, good news was received this week concerning the two Navy SEALS exonerated of injuring an Al Qaeda leader. In addition, Sgt Larry Hutchins, a Marine held at Leavenworth, had his case overturned in the Navy Court of Appeals. These men are decorated heroes who have served this country honorably and deserve our support. It is my hope that the pendulum is truly swinging back in favor of our soldiers and away from a capricious and political military justice system led by people who have NEVER been in harms way. Please continue to contact your Congressmen and Senators and let them know that our soldiers deserve our unending support, especially when they are defending themselves in a combat zone.

Bless each of you for supporting all of our troops,

Sincerely,

Scott and Vicki Behenna

Minorities

We need to show more sympathy for these people.
* They travel miles in the heat.
* They risk their lives crossing a border.
* They don't get paid enough wages.
* They do jobs that others won't do or are afraid to do.
* They live in crowded conditions among a people who speak a different language.
* They rarely see their families, and they face adversity all day ~ every day..

I'm not talking about illegal Mexicans ~ I'm talking about our troops! Doesn't it seem strange that many People are willing to lavish all kinds of social benefits on illegals, but don't support our troops.

I just got this in from AFA (American Family Association) urging the president to re-think "Dont ask, don't tell" ... I signed an e-mail this morning about it. Here are the details:

Tell President Obama to listen to the troops and his own commanders
June 15, 2010

Dear Casey,

Despite vigorous resistance from the heads of each of the military's branches, President Obama is determined to overturn the ban on open homosexual service before a survey of rank and file members of the military is completed on December 1.

If this ban is overturned, it will have a catastrophic effect on military morale, unit cohesion, recruitment, retention and readiness.

The Senate intends to repeal the existing law as early as next week. Moving ahead without receiving input from the men and women who wear the uniform tells them that their opinions don't matter. This is the ultimate sign of disrespect for the military members who put their lives on the line to protect our freedom. It's inexcusable and unconscionable.

Yet on April 19, at a fundraiser for Sen. Barbara Boxer, the president said, "We need to repeal don't ask, don't tell."

It is urgent that we instruct President Obama to listen to his military commanders, who are putting their careers on the line to challenge the commander-in-chief.

Please take a moment to read the following excerpts from letters written to Congress by the men in charge of the armed services.

"[T]he value of surveying the thoughts of Marines and their families is that it signals to my Marines that their opinions matter." ~ Gen. James T. Conway, Commandant of the Marine Corps

"I...believe that repealing the law before the completion of the review will be seen by the men and women of the Army as a reversal of our commitment to hear their views before moving forward." ~ George V. Casey Jr., General, United States Army

"My concern is that legislative changes at this point, regardless of the precise language used, may cause confusion on the status of the law in the Fleet and disrupt the review process itself by leading Sailors to question whether their input matters." ~ G. Roughead, Admiral, U.S. Navy

"I believe it is important...that the Secretary of Defense commissioned review be completed before there is any legislation to repeal the DA/DT law. Such action allows me to provide the best military advice to the President, and sends an important signal to our Airmen and their families that their opinion matters." ~ Norton A. Schwartz, General, United States Air Force

Send an e-mail today insisting that he listen to the voice of his commanders and the voice of his troops and stop the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

It is very important that you forward this alert to your friends and family members.

Sincerely,

Tim Wildmon, President
American Family Association

We are here to honor the memory and service of seven men, seven of our brothers in arms ... why do we have to lose such good men? Part of the answer is only good men like these volunteer to serve and defend their country ... For those who want to support us by getting us out of Iraq as soon as possible, without a victory, I have but one comment. Youre too late. We have sacrificed too much and all we ask of you is the necessary time to finish the job ... So I ask you Wolfpack to make this promise with me. They will not have died for nothing. We owe them a victory. We owe them a win. We owe them our own lives if necessary. If the enemy comes out to fight he will be met with a disciplined lethal ferocity he has never before endured. If he plays the sly game of intimidating, beheading and torturing the innocent people of Iraq when he thinks were not looking, he will be met with a cunning, a sophistication and a relentlessness that will lead to his utter defeat. This is my promise to you as your commander and from all of us to our honored dead.

Old soldiers in the Civil War coined a phrase for green troops who survived their first taste of battle: "He has seen the elephant." This Army lieutenant sums up the combat experience better than many a grizzled veteran:

"Well, I'm here in Iraq, and I've seen it, and done it. I've seen everything you've ever seen in a war movie. I've seen cowardice; I've seen heroism; I've seen fear; and I've seen relief. I've seen blood and brains all over the back of a vehicle, and I've seen men bleed to death surrounded by their comrades. I've seen people throw up when it's all over, and I've seen the same shell-shocked look in 35-year-old experienced sergeants as in 19-year-old privates.

"I've heard the screams - 'Medic! Medic!' I've hauled dead civilians out of cars, and I've looked down at my hands and seen them covered in blood after putting some poor Iraqi civilian in the wrong place at the wrong time into a helicopter. I've seen kids with gunshot wounds, and I've seen kids who've tried to kill me.

"I've seen men tell lies to save lives: 'What happened to Sergeant A.?' The reply: 'C'mon man, he's all right - he's wondering if you'll be OK - he said y'all will have a beer together when you get to Germany.' SFC A. was lying 15 feet away on the other side of the bunker with two medics over him desperately trying to get either a pulse or a breath. The man who asked after SFC A. was himself bleeding from two gut wounds and rasping as he tried to talk with a collapsed lung. One of them made it; one did not.

"I've run for cover as fast as I've ever run - I'll hear the bass percussion thump of mortar rounds and rockets exploding as long as I live. I've heard the shrapnel as it shredded through the trailers my men live in and over my head. I've stood, gasping for breath, as I helped drag into a bunker a man so pale and badly bloodied I didn't even recognize him as a soldier I've known for months. I've run across open ground to find my soldiers and make sure I had everyone.

"I've raided houses, and shot off locks, and broken in windows. I've grabbed prisoners, and guarded them. I've looked into the faces of men who would have killed me if I'd driven past their IED (improvised explosive device) an hour later. I've looked at men who've killed two people I knew, and saw fear.

"I've seen that, sadly, that men who try to kill other men aren't monsters, and most of them aren't even brave - they aren't defiant to the last - they're ordinary people. Men are men, and that's it. I've prayed for a man to make a move toward the wire, so I could flip my weapon off safe and put two rounds in his chest - if I could beat my platoon sergeant's shotgun to the punch. I've been wanted dead, and I've wanted to kill.

"I've sworn at the radio when I heard one of my classmate's platoon sergeants call over the radio: 'Contact! Contact! IED, small arms, mortars! One KIA, three WIA!' Then a burst of staccato gunfire and a frantic cry: 'Red 1, where are you? Where are you?' as we raced to the scene...knowing full well we were too late for at least one of our comrades.

"I've seen a man without the back of his head and still done what I've been trained to do - 'medic!' I've cleaned up blood and brains so my soldiers wouldn't see it - taken pictures to document the scene, like I'm in some sort of bizarre cop show on TV.

"I've heard gunfire and hit the ground, heard it and closed my Humvee door, and heard it and just looked and figured it was too far off to worry about. I've seen men stacked up outside a house, ready to enter - some as scared as they could be, and some as calm as if they were picking up lunch from McDonald's. I've laughed at dead men, and watched a sergeant on the ground, laughing so hard he was crying, because my boots were stuck in a muddy field, all the while an Iraqi corpse was not five feet from him.

"I've heard men worry about civilians, and I've heard men shrug and sum up their viewpoint in two words - 'F--- 'em.' I've seen people shoot when they shouldn't have, and I've seen my soldiers take an extra second or two, think about it, and spare somebody's life.

"I've bought drinks from Iraqis while new units watched in wonder from their trucks, pointing weapons in every direction, including the Iraqis my men were buying a Pepsi from. I've patrolled roads for eight hours at a time that combat support units spend days preparing to travel 10 miles on. I've laughed as other units sit terrified in traffic, fingers nervously on triggers, while my soldiers and I deftly whip around, drive on the wrong side of the road, and wave to Iraqis as we pass. I can recognize a Sadiqqi (Arabic for friend) from a Haji (Arabic word for someone who has made the pilgrimage to Mecca, but our word for a bad guy); I know who to point my weapons at, and who to let pass.

"I've come in from my third 18-hour patrol in as many days with a full beard and stared at a major in a pressed uniform who hasn't left the wire since we've been here, daring him to tell me to shave. He looked at me, looked at the dust and sweat and dirt on my uniform, and went back to typing at his computer.

"I've stood with my men in the mess hall, surrounded by people whose idea of a bad day in Iraq is a six-hour shift manning a radio, and watched them give us a wide berth as we swagger in, dirty, smelly, tired, but sure in our knowledge that we pull the triggers, and we do what the Army does, and they, with their clean uniforms and weapons that have never fired, support us.

"I've given a kid water and Gatorade and made a friend for life. I've let them look through my sunglasses - no one wears them in this country but us - and watched them pretend to be an American soldier - a swaggering invincible machine, secure behind his sunglasses, only because the Iraqis can't see the fear in his eyes.

"I've said it a thousand times - 'God, I hate this country.' I've heard it a million times more - 'This place sucks.' In quieter moments, I've heard more profound things: 'Sir, this is a thousand times worse than I ever thought it would be.' Or, 'My wife and Sgt. B's wife were good friends - I hope she's taking it well.'

"They say they're scared, and say they won't do this or that, but when it comes time to do it they can't let their buddies down, can't let their friends go outside the wire without them, because they know it isn't right for the team to go into the ballgame at any less than 100 percent.

"That's combat, I guess, and there's no way you can be ready for it. It just is what it is, and everybody's experience is different. Just thought you might want to know what it's really like."
