"ENGINE BUILD SPECIFICATIONS"
BLOCK PREPARATION
Supplied core 427 block. Oven baked block and shot blasted with steel media blasting process. Cleaned block, jet washed in 180* hot tank jet wash cleaner. Performed sonic check of cylinder walls for thickness and magnafluxed block to check for cracks. Upon positive block test, performed cylinder boring to 4.310 bore,final honed to size with competition deck plates, align honed main saddles in block with ARP fasteners installed. After initial mock up, block deck surface was machined to provide proper quench to use with cylinder heads. Block was hard blocked with Moroso block filler, tall deck fill. Ground clearance for Moroso oil filter adapter fitment.Block was cleaned again, solvent washed and final hand washed prior to painting. Chevy orange enamel was then applied on designated areas, including block, oil pan and timing cover. After paint, piston rings were checked in cylinder bores for proper sizing and end gap dimensions.
CRANK PREPARATION
Eagle 4.250 45442506385-CCW forged crankshaft was measured, sized and inspected.Hot tank crank to clean prior to assembly. Measured rod bearing clearances in rods and also main bearing clearances in main saddle bore of block to determine proper oil clearances for bearings. Wash crankshaft in jet wash machine prior to
crankshaft balance.
CONNECTING RODS
K1 Technologies 6.700 steel h beam rods were used, part number CH6700APRB8 with ARP 2000 bolts installed. Rods were relaxed, bolts were styreched 3 times, then re-assembled with torque and angle method, and using extreme pressure lube. Rod big ends were checked for roundness and size, then bearings were installed for caged clearances.
Rod side clearances: #1 .017 #2 .018 #3 .018 #4 .019
PISTONS & PISTON RINGS
Diamond forged domed pistons were used. Piston were a CWE custom spec, with a 45 cc dome and valve relief’s set for Merlin III aluminum heads and expected cam specs. Piston to wall clearance was set at -.007 at 70* Fahrenheit. Piston wieght approximatel 669 grams. Piston pins were pin fit for proper clearance.
Rings are Mahle brand 1/16 Moly - 1/16 ductile- 3/16 standard tension oil and were filed for intended useage per CWE.
CAMSHAFT & TIMING CHAIN
CWE custom specd Comp roller cam was provided. .770 lift and 110 lobe seperation.
Installed and degreed in block using a Manley roller thrust timing set with appropriate cam button and set end play to approximately +.006 .
ROCKER ARMS, PUSHRODS and ROLLER LIFTERS
Harland Sharp 1.7 ratio S series rocker arms. Manley 3/8 x .090 pushrods, lengths determined by mocking up assembly. Comp cams roller lifters were installed.
MAIN, CAMSHAFT & CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS
A combination of Clevite 77 bearings were used for the connecting rods ( CB 743 HN/HXN) and main ( MS829H) crankshaft bores. All rods were torqued, cycled and sized, and rod bearings were selected based on desired sizing to properly maintain both bearing crush and vertical oil clearance for each rod and rod pin journal. Main bearing bores , after being align honed were also caged up and sizing checked for proper crush and vertical bearing clearance for crank main journals. Some bearing shells may be mixed and matched to adjust these clearances accurately. Durabond cam bearings were installed and checked for proper camshaft fit and rotation.
INTERNAL BALANCE
Based on weights measured of pistons, rod big and small ends, rings bearings and
circlips, crank was weight matched and balanced using a ATI part number 916890 harmonic balancer . All weights were balanced to within or less than 2 grams. Rpd S/e - 243.3, Rod B/E - 599.4, Overall 842.7
CYLINDER HEADS
Customer supplied Merlin III aluminum heads were totally refinished, with race valve job, Level 2 porting, new valves, new seals and all installed heights checked and adjusted.
PSI DR 1224 springs were installed with Comp spring cups.
this motor runs mid to low 9's depending on weather and elevation. the motor is like new less the 20 passes on it, we also just put in a brand new TCI powerglide. It has brand new richmond 4:10 gears in a 12bolt rear end. Brand new electronics that we have just put in as of 2012. (Mega 450 delay box, brand new painless switches, ignition system, 2 step and so-forth). New Strange calipers, rotors, brake pads in the front, along with a new wilwood master brake cylinder. the tires have only one season on them also just updated the car with a parachute. Many more parts to list but not enough time...
