This is the original Hotlicks drag car. It was raced as a funnycar, A/G before funnycars existed. The big block injected engine set way back into the firewall. It had a clutch flite automatic. the driver sat in the center, way in the back. it was one of the first drag cars to have a flip front body, just like the cars of today. it also had a torsion tube front straight axle like on dragsters. this car was a pioneer of what funny cars are today. Car was driven BY Bob Byars, an original founding member of the Thunderbirds Club in California, where it all started. Great history with this car. I believe it was a crowd favorite at Lions Dragway.
Today it has been extensively reworked to be a street car. as raced there was no canvas roof section, and no rear doors. it now has a filled roof, and fiberglass rear doors. the frontend is a flip front fiberglass with the headlight mounted in the fenders. I like this better than the buckets myself. The original funnycar tube frame was copied, and the car has a brand new frame, duplicating the original. the rear axle is still the original narrowed 57 Olds rear. Rear has 4:88 gears with spool and new Moser racing axles. The tube ends are big bearing Ford. the rear brakes are new Aerospace, with the same disc brake brand on the front Anglia spindles.
Engine is a rebuilt 468 big block chevy with a 8-71 blower and two 830 holley carbs. Tranny is a 4 speed Muncie bolted to a Lakewood scattershield bellhousing. Car still has the original big block headers from the race car. Nice car.
