David Caspolich was introduced to the racing industry in the early 70's when his family built, owned and operated an NHRA sanctioned drag strip in Gulfport Mississippi known then as Magnolia Dragway.later it became Deep South Dragway which was Division Four(Buster's Rebels). Racing was spread through out his family, his Uncle Joe Caspolich was inducted as a charter member of NASCAR's Pure Darlington Record club, as the fastest Oldsmobile in 1957. He was inducted into this prestigous club with Richard Petty, Fireball Roberts, Elmo Langley Marvin Panch among others.Even Davids mother, Barbara owned a stock car in the early 70's that ran on the local dirt tracks in south Mississippi. With NHRA drag racing and short track stock cars in his blood David took to chassis building as his passion over driving. " I loved driving but eight seconds did'nt last long enough" "race car contsruction was something that took time and could last forever" In 1983 David formed Steel Brothers Race Cars with his father and has over 25 years of experience ranging from Alchohol Funny Car, Pro Stock, Super Gas, Super Stock, Super Comp, Comp Eliminator, late model dirt and Winged sprint cars. Steel Bros., is also credited with building a D gas roadster that set a land speed record of 210 MPH on the Utah salt flat in 1988 by Paul Vanderley of Biloxi Mississippi.
David has recently formed Savage Race Cars with former Pro Stock world champion team member Phillip Cumberland. He is bringing his experience and knowledge from his Drag Racing career with Pro Stock driver Lee Shepherd and Reher Morrison winning four consecutive world championships.
As a crew chief, in 1980 Phillip won the NHRA Division 2 championship, was nominated sportsman wrench of the year and won the Cajun Nationals with Ricky Klarr as the driver. In 1982 Phillip won the prestigious Gator Nationals in CED dragster with Steve Green as the driver. Then in 1983 he is credited with a IHRA Top Fuel championship with Richard Tharp driving the Kilpatrick and Connell entry. In 1985 Phillip Cumberland and Steve Green teamed up one last time and set a NHRA world record in "A" Dragster at the Las Vegas Strip.
As a team, Savage Race Cars has over 50 years experience in chassis construction and is committed to building a superior product for their customers. They are currently specializing in complete race cars, updating, chassis repair, chassis set up, in all types of racing.
Savage currently has three house cars including one NHRA top sportsman, driven by Johnny Cothren. And two ASCS sprint cars driven by Michael Dupuy and "Rookie" DJ Vanderley.
